The Final: Argentina v France

They are no worse than some of those old Klinsman era German sides who could fall over a blade of grass even though nobody was within 3ft of them.
Was there a point, a golden moment, when football came away from the hatchet man era and before the histrionic diving took hold?

Every year I try to remember why I fell in love with the game, but it seems harder and harder to imagine.

This Argentina squad isn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination; there's a fair few decent to good players, but it isn't a stellar setup.

But, they play with unity and arguably around Messi to make the most of him. It's all conjecture of course, but I couldn't see Portugal doing that for Ronaldo.
It's a team effort where they set up to get the most out of old Messi in much the same way that Milan and Juve set up around old Pirlo.

You can see that Messi is playing for Argentina - it means something beyond himself. You can see the relationship he has with the other players.

Ronaldo is about him and him alone. Was it about winning the WC with Portugal, or him being in the limelight? We all know the answer.

Messi has gone up another notch in my eyes.
In this tournament maybe, not so much in the others he has been in.

The Messi vs Ronaldo narrative is tedious. A rivarly created by fans and thats it.

I preferred those dives, they were terrible but nobody defended them and in general penalties were not given for them!

These days everything is so snide, leaving a leg in waiting for contact etc. Give me Klinsmann break dancing on his head whilst everybody ignores him any day.
