I watched a documentary (or a part of a show...) where it talked about how the perception of Messi in Argentina has changed significantly in the past few years.
Tevez was, apparently, a far more liked player over there, but that started to change before their Copa América win and came full about after it.
However, one aspect they described was how Messi's attitude to Argentina changed, which seems to correlate with what we're seeing in this tournament.
I do agree with the narrative aspect: we're lucky to have had two such stellar players at the same time, which fuels the debate that perhaps isn't needed.
Both, alone, would be put on a pedestal of greatness. Yet, Ronaldo's actions in the past few months are fuelling the debate, probably more than ever before.
