Don't think anyone is getting close to his current record for a while but if he started well, I genuinely think he'd have gotten close to about 9 seconds.

It's like Andy Murray. If he had a killer serve he'd be virtually unbeatable. But no one is perfect.

If I plodded down a 100m track, I would probably do it in 19-20 seconds, so it gives me a warm glow to know that the greatest sprinter of all time is only twice as good as me.

I don't know if people appreciate sometimes just how good these guys are. In cycling for instance, a pro will go up Alps d'Huez some 15-20 minutes faster than I would (having probably already done 150km beforehand), or a swimmer would do the 100m freestyle 12 seconds faster than I ever managed. I'm ok at both, but these guys are simply incredible. I mean I dare say your average park runner would have a job keeping up with Mo Farah for more than a few hundred metres, yet he does it for 10k.

How on earth did GB get so prolific at the Olympics?

It's unnerving. This Games and the last, duking it out with super powers in the medals table. And what's happened to the Germans - their Teutonic efficiency used to carry all before them, now they're getting sand kicked in their face by Brian Britain.

Surely Lottery cash doesn't cover all this as an explanation?
