The GOT Book Club

the Future one with the simulants or the future one where they were on Hawaii?
Both of those I thought were the stronger parts of the book, probably the simulant one grabbed me most, which is a surprise because I don't really read sci-fi (read Dune once). The reporter section was Ok, I thought the composer and the ship sections where the weakest.

Pretty much agree with you there I think the middle parts of the book are what made me stick with it, friend of mine gave up said he couldn't be doing with all the different stories

Just went back and read through all the Bernard Samson spy novels from Len Deighton (Game/Set/Match; Hook/Line/Sinker; Faith/Hope/Charity). Awesome stuff. Haven't read them in a long time so it was like reading them for the first time.

I love me some spy novels. Deighton is one of the best.

I have a lot of physical books. Love the Sci Fi genre and I am a massive fan of Philip K Dick, Ben Bova and Kim Stanley Robinson.

Unfortunately last year I had to buy a kindle :( as I am running out of shelves. But I do prefer reading from a physical book.

I also enjoy the classics, drama, some crime novels, historical, biographies not about the rubbish celebs you get today but of interesting people throughout history from the inventors to evil kings/emperors and artists - anything really.

I Do fancy reading some proper Space Sci-fi type books, if you go into a book shop the sci fi section is all Fantasy type stuff, nothing against that just fancy some proper sci fi

Looking for a new book.

I want something that will impress people on my commute but also something readable and enjoyable.

Any recommendations?

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared.

by Jonas Jonasson, translated by Rod Bradbury.

Only just started it, a bit quirky and dark but fun. Our hero has a touch of Forrest Gump about him as he journeys through the last century..

Jonathan Franzen is a very readable writer who is praised to the skies at the moment - (also not a man to endorse the kindle).

The Corrections from a few years back and Freedom more recently are right out of the top drawer, superb writing. He's a strong advocate of writing for the reader, so whilst he's a serious novelist, takes on big themes, he's not going to belabour you with any ballaching, impenetrable nonsense.

Was back in Liverpool for a few days last week, picked up my dad´s old battered copy of ´The Catcher in the Rye´. First read it when I was 16, started it this morning and have barely put it down, damn near missed my goddamn stop on the metro because of it.

Recently re-read Blood Maridion and then read 2 books by the same author Glen Duncan : The last werewolf and I,lucifer. Both great ideas that could have been better.
At the moment im reading The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie ( excellent game of thrones type fantasy) and some enjoyable hokum called Sandman Slim.
