The GOT Book Club

Looking for a new book.

I want something that will impress people on my commute but also something readable and enjoyable.

Any recommendations?

Spy thriller, historical novel, love story - all in one. Atmospheric, thought-provoking and action-packed.

I have picked up 2 books today which I will start on very soon...Richard Booth's Autobiography..My Kingdom Of Books..... and Dear Tom, Letters from home......Tom Courtenay....

Not sure if it's my thing but both books came highly recomended by a friend.

Try Catch 22 by Joseph Heller - my favourite book of all time. So funny but quite profound in its way.

Couldn't get into it, I found the characters to be irritating and unrelatable and the sarcastic tone Heller writes with got on my nerves. Probably the only 'classic' I haven't enjoyed.

Still on the sodding lord of the rings trilogy.

Thanks for all the boss recommendations, just been on amazon and ordered myself Winter in Madrid by Sansom as I loved Zafron's Shadow of the Wind. Also ordered Frazen's The Corrections, looks like a good read. Will pick up Catch 22 when I'm next home, not originally a fan, didn't like the way each chapter was a new character, but I did try and read it at a music festival so I'll give it another go.

Cheers chaps.

Recently re-read Blood Maridion and then read 2 books by the same author Glen Duncan : The last werewolf and I,lucifer. Both great ideas that could have been better.
At the moment im reading The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie ( excellent game of thrones type fantasy) and some enjoyable hokum called Sandman Slim.
What's Abercrombie like? Heard good things about him.
Last year I read all ten books of Steve Erikson's Malazan series, one after the other, so got a bit burned out on the genre. Feeling like I might be ready to pick another one up now.

Today is world book day lids. What are you reading at the moment?

I'm on Jonathan Franzen's 'Freedom' on the back of Black Belt Jones' recommendation on this very thread.
