The GOT Book Club

Just finished 'When Footballers Were Skint' by Jon Henderson. Worth a read. He quotes Tony McNamara who complements Everton on standing by him more than half a century later. He says 'I have two false knees now and to give Everton their due, it was they who paid for me to have them done. When the club found out that I was struggling, rather than let me go on an NHS waiting list they looked after things for me. That's one thing about Everton, they look after their former players.'

Possibly the best of the series I've so far read. Set in Berchtesgaden in the first half of 1939, it details the endemic corruption, led by Boorman, in Hitler's Alpine retreat. As usual, the flip side describes the ever running detective, this time trying to escape the Stasi in post war France and Germany.
The author (sadly deceased) writes some of the best metaphors I've read. On a par with Raymond Chandler and Mickey Spillane.
Can be read as a stand alone novel, and I recommend it highly.
