Denis jonson is fantastic. Deffo start with Jesus Son. Short stories narrated by a character called ****head. Emergency is a particular highlight. If you want to dive in now you can find the great Tobias Wolff reading it out on a podcast in the New Yorker. After that try his first novel Angels.
I just finished Angels the other day - very impressive (and sad). Reads like the work of a master, not someone writing their first book.

It's so good because you'd think the genre was mined out - that American noir, dregs of humanity story is sort of a pastiche nowadays. To make it sound real takes great skill.
I fancy reading one of his longer books next, see what he's like on a bigger canvas. I see Tree of Smoke is highly rated so might give that a go.

Has anyone on here read any of the 'Odd Thomas' novels by Dean Koontz, don't know why but I just fancy reading them. I am a bit of a completist though so don't want to start off down a series of books if in fact they are poor.

The old man and the sea. Just done it in audio book. Lovely.

Hey remember that series on tv with Sean Bean called Sharpe? Yes it was crap but the books are brilliant. There's about 25 odd if you like them which is a bonus.

Graphic Novels I've read lately..

Eternals : Gaiman & Romita Jr - Good premise, never quite hits its stride. 3 out of 5.

Camelot 3000 : Mike Barr & Brian Bolland - Classic tale, brilliantly written and illustrated by the master. 4 out of 5.
