Just finished all of Preacher. Was quite good.

......read Grapes of Wrath and Catcher in the Rye whilst on holiday the last fortnight, thought it time I read classic novels and I enjoyed both.
The Grapes Of Wrath is a fantastic book and Steinbeck was a great writer. I haven't read Catcher In The Rye for years. I don't remember being that impressed with it. All I could think about was "This hasn't made me want to out and shoot John Lennon" Maybe it's time I re-read it without the John Lennon thoughts!

.....yep, Catcher in the Rye has been associated as a bible for rebellious youth but perhaps it is more mellow with the passage of time. Grapes of Wrath was a famous film starring Henry Fonda but I'm not aware of Catcher in the Rye on the big screen (my daughter thought Steven Spielberg bought the rights to it).

Quite like books set in other countries or historical settings as improves my knowledge of the world.
Victoria Hislop books I find good - The Thread, THe Sunrise, and The Island good - not too girly.
Guernica by Dave Boling good too.

One of the best books I ever read was A Sunday at the pool in Kigali by Gil Courtemanche. A harrowing read about the war in Rwanda and the genocide there

I have read non-stop for a week and have finished both The Twelve and City Of Mirrors. I have no words. They have surpassed The Stand as my favourite book of all time. I feel at a bit of a loss as to what to do now! Have you read any of his other stuff? If you have what did you think?

Wow, I thought I was a martyr by reading the Passage in a week !

I'm going to do all three back to back early on in the New Year.

Imagine how good the films could be if they followed the books and with the right cast !!!!!!!!

I haven't read any of his other books as I believe that they are in a completely different vein to the Passage Trilogy.

May be worth a bit of research ?

I was thinking about films while I was reading. I didn't get very far with my casting though! They could be so good. I'll let you know if I read any of his others.

Matt Reeves who did - Cloverfield and Let Me In ( American remake of Let the Right One In ) has been signed up to direct it, after an initial approach to Ridley Scott
Wasn't impressed with Cloverfield but I don't like that "found footage" kind of genre. Thought Blair Witch was a pile of cack!! Would have preferred Ridley Scott. But whoever does it- they have to stick to the book!!
