The Journos getting worried about Everton challenging the Top 4 Thread

The 'Spirit of Heysel' journalists can take their perpetual sneers at Everton with them straight to Hell for all I care.
Why are you always so angry?

I'd much prefer us to remain unhyped and unfancied. Less pressure and lots more backtracking from journalists if and when we do get in to Europe.

That is complete garbage. The bigged us up and merely said it wouldn't surprise them if Martinez eventually managed Madrid or Barca.

Yeah, I listened to it and it was very positive press for Everton. One guy said there shouldn't be a loan system at all and he made some decent points. They talked up RM and Everton big time.

Yep, agreed. I've always preferred us not getting much coverage in the media, especially as it's saturated by absolute bellends whose opinions I don't really care about.

The only thing I agreed with in that article was that Chelsea should not be underestimated. Jose is going to tighten things up and start winning a bunch of 1-nils.

To be fair to them, the season is decided at the end of it rather than half way through so there's no point anyone getting ahead of themselves at this stage. We've played some super stuff of late, but it doesn't mean anything really. Keep our feat on the ground, keep playing well and see where things end up.

Its nice to have the occasional reminder from media that we haven't fallen off the face of the earth and Everton are more than a figment of my imagination. I'm quite happy for us to have nothing until the end of the season because we've earnt good press and deserve the column inches from idiots who haven't noticed.

Look the journos are going to be the last ones to figure out a story. But they will follow it. Can you imagine the rags to riches story they will tell if we win the league or even come close? Trust me, it would vault Everton into the mainstream consciousness in a heartbeat. That is where we want to be, right?

So Paul Wilson goes to great pains to write an unbalanced article about how we're not favourites to get a CL spot ahead of some of the most expensively assembled squads in history. probably deserves some kind of prize that guy.

But of course we do. I think being outwardly positive is difficult for a fair number of Evertonians. I know I'd like to remain quietly confident. Perhaps the fact the fan base isn't shouting how wonderful we are effects the press we get?

Well... preferably not. But, if you are then it means you're probably successful... so yes weirdly enough.

If we do achieve something this season, it'll be funny watching journos and pundits do embarrassing 180s on their Everton stance.

While they're selling off our manager and best players.

The last condition may not appear wholly unlikely at the moment, though United's next three games are against West Ham, Hull and Norwich, so it might be wise to check the situation again at the end of the year.

I'll see you with Swansea, Sunderland and Saints......and raise you with Stoke, Norwich and Baggies.

You win nowt on paper but our next six games give us an excellent opportunity to crash into the top four and dig in.

I hope Roberto prints these stories out and hand them to the players. A few weeks ago we were going to come undone at old Trafford and the Emirates according to the media.

Fcuk them, what's are name??

If Martinez has well and truly changed the mentality at Everton then we will proceed now to get a good haul of points from these games. But that's a big if and we all know what has happened with such opportunities in the past.

There are two types of journalist who cover football. There's the type who is informed, objective and seems to have a genuine love of the game. You might ferociously disagree with them often but you know their heart is in the right place.
Then there's the other type who thinks football started with the premiere league and gets excited by the money side of the game. They have no problem talking about City like they've always been a 'big club'. They know everything about arsenal, Chelsea and utd and were aware of the S**te when they were kids into rugby and cricket so think of them as challengers regardless of how they're doing. Other clubs hold no interest for them. To these hacks Everton will always be a mystery. Hence the bewildering double standards in this particular article.
