The L.C.A.B. / THT Transfer Window Thread ....

I wouldn't mind Daniel Sturridge on loan with a view to a permanent deal otherwise go to the other end of the market and go for a world class player who's ageing on loan, eg: Klose.

Laughing. We "threw" £15m at Fellaini solely because he done well against Liverpool?

Liege confirmed our interest in Fellaini the March before we signed him.

During his game against Liverpool, 32 scouts where there to watch Fellaini, and Fellaini alone.

It was commented on before, during and after the game. Its even quoted on a Liverpool match report;

There's citations to them all. He was one of the most sought after young players in football. We didn't just see some lad play well against Liverpool and decide to lob £15m on him.... that's a certainty.

Damon?

Seriously though, Danny's just emphasised how boss a signing Felli was and WHY WE MUST KEEP HOLD OF HIM.

Moyes even said himself that though we'd been scouting him for a while it was only his performances against Liverpool - a week before the deal went through - that convinced us to move for him. We'd been chasing Moutinho all summer if you remember.

You're giving them way too much credit to say we swooped when there was no time for a bidding war. We panicked having missed out on all our other targets and having to play a midfield pair of Jagielka and a 17 year old Rodwell on the opening day, so threw money at Standard for a 20 year old. I'm among the biggest fans of both Moyes and Fellaini, but that's a panic buy in my book.

I'm with Danny on this. For one, Real Madrid was keeping very close tabs on him. A lot of you only heard of Fellaini, after the Liége vs RS match. Tbh though, I mentioned him a few times before that, on here.

I know we'd been watching him since atleast march of that year (and alluded to as much in my post), and it doesn't surprise me that those other clubs were watching him. But (as loathe as I am to link the Daily Mail to back up a point) Moyes had this to say of him soon after we signed him:

'What probably put him over the edge was his performances against Liverpool - that tipped the balance and I thought 'maybe this is the time to try and get him'...It made us realise that the potential we saw in him in Belgium had now come to [fruition] and that he was now ready to come play in England.'
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...purchase-Standard-Lieges-Fellaini--Moyes.html

So until the games against Liverpool in the week before we finalised the deal we only saw him as a potential target for the future. But we were up **** creek and hadn't signed anyone of note, so paid over the odds for him on deadline day. Not that I'm saying he wasn't worth £15m, he definately was in hindsight, but it was a big fee to pay for someone with so little experience and I don't think it would've happened had it not been deadline day.

Perhaps our definitions of panic buy differ. I think Fellaini was one. That's not the same thing as saying we saw 'some lad play well against Liverpool and decide to lob £15m on him' though.

Am sure whoever it was, meant crocked thigh.

I've already given up. Every single target that seemed feasible, even for our nonexistant budget, is disappearing to other clubs.

It really, really makes me wonder. Why the hell are they choosing other clubs over us? How exactly are these deals being conducted? Seriously! How can O'Hara, who we were obviously in for, choose Wolves over us? Who makes these decisions? Who represents us on the transfer market and why is this person most obviously the least charismatic person who has ever graced the surface of this planet?

From here on in till the deadline, i'm pulling my internet connection. I'm checking the OS after it's passed, and all i will find is a crappy fluffpiece news article about how Timmy is back from the Asia cup and that it feels like a new signing. Except his knee is busted, keeping him our for a further four weeks.

How on earth where we obviously in for O'Hara? If we're working to a limited or non-existent budget the last we thing is another work horse injury prone midfielder who isnt deemed good enough for Spurs and will take at least 2 months to gain match fitness after a year out. Yes he is a good player and one I would be happy to see us sign in the summer if he proves his fitness at Wolves.

We just let Pienaar, Yak, Vaughan go....surely we would have enough for a loan? His wages couldn't that high could they?

To be fair to him....Spurs have a bit of talent in midfield. I'd take him on loan...no means a star but would do a job.

Latest rumour - Kyle Lafferty.

Just crap Facebook/Twitter rumours, no HP sauce to speak of.

Won't happen obviously, but in this instance I'm sort of glad it won't.
