I think I know this. I do it all the time. Didn't know until my girlfriend actually videod it for a laugh.

Apparently your body gets confused sometimes as you're about to fall asleep because it thinks you're dying, so twitches to wake you up in what the body thinks is an attempt to keep you alive. Or something.

Isn't the little jump you do sometimes when your falling asleep your heart jolting back to normal speed because it's slowed down too quickly?

I've often woke up in the middle of the night for what seems to be no reason. Must have been this.

I also get one just as I'm drifting off sometimes that literally makes my whole body jump and gives me a feeling as if I've just hit the ground from a fall.
