The loan myth

I'd be very surprised if we didn't keep Barry but, even if he does leave, Gibson is younger and could form a very effective partnership for club and country with McCarthy.

You have a point about Gibson, totally forgotten about him! When is he back from injury?

I don't see us being able to loan anyone next season that is half as good as Lukaku, that's the issue for me. We have used the loan system excellently this season but it's clearly unsustainable in the longer term, next years lot might not work out.

Saying that, there maybe some really interesting players available to loan next year. Darren Bent and Moses I think we'll look at.

prob with Gibson is, while he's a good player, you only ever get half a season out him. Maybe Lundstram can offset that with 10-20 games next season.

Re building bridges with Barca - hopefully we can regularly loan out their young stars.

Loans are great. They can be quick-fixes, trials or just a chance to get a player you wouldn't normally be able to have.

However when loans don't complement buys, but seemingly replace them, then you have a problem. And his name's Bill 'the biggest blue' Kenwright.

Forget about Gibson, you cant rely on him or build a team around him. We need to get another young central midfielder in next summer along with a striker.

I hope Martinez gives Lundstram a go next season. I'm from Doncaster & my friends (supporters of Rovers) have been raving about him.

not good enough. We need some little foreigner who is boss. Doncaster are in league one aren't they?
Struggling at the bottom of the Championship, just above the relegation zone. You can read some of the reviews on him on their forum http://drfc-vsc.co.uk

Though he's at Yeovil now along with Shane Duffy... who are in the relegation zone. He must like battling down there? He was a regular starter since joining, but just checked and he's been on bench two games running....

So we know for certain that next season there will be 4 new loan slots available for us to exploit
Barry will possibly (hopefully) be signed permanently
Lukaku returns to Chelsea
Traore returns to Monaco (pfft)
Deulofeu returns to Barcelona

Its sad, but fact is the loan signings should be complementing our core squad with exciting outlets
So obviously we will need to permanently sign one or two permanent strikers but otherwise after our success with loannees this season we should see even more exciting players come our way--
I was thinking maybe Xherdan Shaqiri? The type of already established player who would be a superstar at any other club...

All well and good Billycopper using the loan system to use the transfer funds to strengthen elsewhere, unfortunately we have only strengthened the 'other operating costs' therefore your argument falls down!!!!!!

Unless you are using McGeady as the example of redirecting transfer funds to maybe give him a large signing on fee to attract him, then that would be a little deluded.

We are being constantly being lied to about what is available, 24/7 search for investment and managers having to operate one shoe string and that is because of the board and not because managers are good at using the loan system, they use the loan system as the board is failing to either attract money or release it.

Whilst I still appreciate players that come to Everton one loan I would much prefer for use to be able to compete for our own players, players that we can play where and when we want and not under the direction of another club!!

Nothing wrong with the loans. I want us to do it every single season. Every player we have got in on loan are unavailable to buy simple because the price tags

Lukaku = 20m
Barry = god knows but 120k per week
Traore = Went to Monaco for 15m
Deulofeu = 29m

how do you know he's not good enough? He's been at Yeovil in the Championship this season. No harm to give him a few games next season and see how he gets on. That's how young players develop.

to be fair is Yeovil are benching him, then I can't see him getting many games here. Will be interesting to see if Martinez gives him a pre-season to prove himself or not.

He's been on the bench the last couple of games but apart from that has started regularly. Maybe he's being rested at the minute.

I'm afraid people are suffering from Shane Duffy-itis with Lundstram. He's not good enough at the bottom end of the championship, let alone to play for us.
