interesting way of putting that, I wonder when current events intrude into the forum proper what the mod reaction will be, say an earthquake or mass fire, or some tragedy. Then much lesser topics like a former president going to jail, or a surprise by election rout. zero tolerance the lot or some understanding?

I agree with both of these statements. Reality is that the mods would never have been able to stay ahead of the toxicity with the ban hammer, no matter how many people they drafted into their ranks. It's just the state of politics across the globe these days.

I would say that the entire history of the Internet suggests that anonymity, interacted with free or low-paid labor tasked with keeping things in line, are hard on our ability to have nice things. We can have them for a while, but eventually the wrong people show up in force, and enforcement capacity just isn't there.

True enough for the mods, I just put the far right boys on ignore when it's clear they are being insincere. I realise the mods can't do that.

I am saddened to not get the info and links in the environmental thread, us politics and looking back to pandemic when it was a real go to for me during those times.
