RIP the CA forum

So the forum bigots will be heading elsewhere… could get busy in here!

They’ll see it as them being censored “they can’t handle my opinions” and think it’s infringing on free speech. Some of them think free speech means they can say what they want and aren’t intelligent enough to understand there being rules and laws around hate speech. I think it should have been kept going, allows the world to see them for the vile human beings they really are

True enough for the mods, I just put the far right boys on ignore when it's clear they are being insincere. I realise the mods can't do that.

I am saddened to not get the info and links in the environmental thread, us politics and looking back to pandemic when it was a real go to for me during those times.

GOT was definetely a safe haven/escape for many during the nightmare of lockdowns and considering the good it brings is a community that needs managing to ensure it endures.

That said, it is disappointing that a few filthy saboteurs/WUMs and A grade whoppers have made it a genuine concern for GOT/the mods. I have to believe that the parallels to what has happened today and the time the army of Rohan seemed doomed to die in fortress the Hornburg at the merciless hands of Saruman's Uruk-hai, Orcs and Dunlendings cannot be ignored. As many will remember, Theoden and Aragorn lead a valiant cavalry charge that drove the Orcs from the fortress as appearing on the side of the valley, Gandalf and Erkenbrand, a Rohirrim leader, appeared filled with Hibbert level determination and drove the Orcs into the angry Huorn forest, from which the Orcs never emerge. In a similar fashion I think we can all be filled with the hope of the peoples of Rohan that there is a way back for the CA if we stay strong like Tony, and once again the Orcs will be defeated.

Couldn't agree more with this, no idea what the second part of your post was.

I got a lot of genuinely useful insight from the CA, GOT is the only social media I have, but if the last couple of weeks of the CA is indicative of the wider internet then we are truly heading to a dangerous place.

To the mods and everyone who keeps this site going, thank you for everything you do.

Thank you and the mods for dealing with the headaches and craziness in the CA forum. It's not easy doing that job, even if lightly moderated. Your decisions about what is misinformation, who is genuinely a bad apple versus a wum/troll, and attempting to deal with reported posts and other issues, cannot have been easy and probably produced a bit more stress than people realize.

I agree with both of these statements. Reality is that the mods would never have been able to stay ahead of the toxicity with the ban hammer, no matter how many people they drafted into their ranks. It's just the state of politics across the globe these days.

I would say that the entire history of the Internet suggests that anonymity, interacted with free or low-paid labor tasked with keeping things in line, are hard on our ability to have nice things. We can have them for a while, but eventually the wrong people show up in force, and enforcement capacity just isn't there.

Technically we weren't supposed to mod at all in there especially over content - which for COVID was admittedly difficult to near impossible for me.

I think the CA forum should be re-instated with a dedicated separate mod.

Personally I would like to see @the sniderman given the role and a “Ban of the week” feature installed
