I think Ashworth is out of our pay structure.

He has been given huge wages at Newcastle then Man United.

The only way he would come to us is if he takes total control which I don't think our new owners will do.
Ashworths career options are pretty minimal if he wants to stay in football

I'm not sure that I agree with that mate.

His stock was remarkably high at Brighton.

Appreciate that Newcastle have PSR issues but they fought tooth and nail to keep him.

Who knows what's gone on at United but I think we can all agree that they are a basket case at present.

It was rumoured in the Sunday Press that Arsenal and ourselves were interested in him.

I think he will have better options than Everton .

Most seem to be anti on the basis that he is close to Southgate. Well he certainly wouldn't be my choice as manager , pretty uninspiring, but undeniable that he is held in high esteem in the football world .

It wasn't just that, he wanted someone he had worked with before like Southgate/Howe/Potter none of which are really suitable for Utd.

People are mentioning we should get managers already established in the epl like the manager from bournemouth, instead of doing what bournemouth did initailly, creative selecting someone from outside the epl
That’s an understandable perspective though, isn’t it?

It’s harder to find someone capable of turning round a failing PL side who hasn’t yet done so than someone who already has.

Why would he come here?

They are 8th, we are 15th soon to be 18th.

Temporary league positions less than half the way through a season mean nothing. It’s like claiming Silva ‘had Watford in 5th’ just because they occupied 5th position for a short while one weekend before Christmas. He then went on a dreadful and got sacked by Watford, if I remember correctly? So Silva never ‘had Watford in 5th’ at all really.

You have to play 38 games before you start claiming a league position imo, and even then I don’t think it matters all that much. The managers contractual obligations are just one thing that are of greater importance, amongst other things.

Didn't Arsenal just lose Edu as their DoF as well? Not sure he's been replaced yet..

I take that tbf.

Its just that its not a role that comes up particularly often in well run football clubs.

I don't think Southgate is the right choice here, either. International football vs. the daily grind of the league clubs is night and day. Reckon you would get sick of the Southgates rhetoric every day, but occasional input was likely good at international level
