Biggest mistake Moyes ever made was taking the Man Utd job. Not sure if Fergie deliberately set him up to fail, but it was a poisoned chalice. Sad thing is, had he hung around until Moshiri we’d probably have ended up a Top Four side ourselves.
Absolutely no chance. He has a ceiling around the 7th placed trophy (6th at a push) and that's fine, but he can't make a side a consistent winner and will always fall back to the "knife to a gunfight" mentality, especially away and in any game that might be even remotely 'big'.

I know he won a pot with WHam, but I had to sadly watch the entire game and it was basically a Dyche set up but with slightly less mindless hoofing. Helped that Rice and Bowen were probably in the hottest form of their careers at the time and Fiorentina were absolutely toothless and kept missing shots/chances. A real throwback to the exact same thing we tried to do against Chelsea in the FA Cup final (and also in any game against the top 4), but with the added twist of long throws whenever possible too.

Can we not make the same "rehire the previous manager" mistake as we've done before, historically? Moyes was fantastic for us for a long period and genuinely performed near miracles, how about we let it stay like that and remember him for it instead of bringing him back for a 2nd stint, where he won't even be a serious upgrade on the current manager, who is massively turd?

Rice was poor in that final. Amrabat was far superior. The real key to that match was how they were set up as a tight unit. Big Zouma was good, until he got injured.

Moyes made a big call to play Emerson, who was not a regular, and it paid off in spades.

If his ceiling was seventh how come he finished fourth here and sixth at West Ham?

We’ve had a few seasons with a real chance at success under multiple managers.

But we’ve always struggled to hold onto talent and to invest properly when we’re close.

Happened with Moyes. Happened with Martinez. Happened with Ancelotti.

Ah yes, it wasn't Moyes that didn't have an ounce of bravery for 10 years, it was the players (which he himself scouted and bought) then too. If only he'd gone to a rich team and failed, all while trying to poach our players for nothing as they needed to 'make the step up' or whatever (he also wanted to play it safe as he knew all those players btw). Fellaini made such a great step up then, wow.

Just like how Dyche will improve if he gets money, and definitely won't be the exact same dour manager he's always been his entire career.

I love the optimism.

You mean like when he went to west ham and got money and won them a European cup? ;)

Yes, but if you are going to give Moyes a pass for winning nothing because there was a big four or five with bigger resources, you can't give him a pass when Wigan and Reading put him to the sword when the opportunity to win a cup does arrive.

In other words, some Moyes fans want to have it both ways.
Mate, you do know the difference between a cup competition and a league competition don’t you and the relative chances of winning either. League position is nearly 100% determined by resources. The Cup is slightly more of a lottery. But that works for and against us. It’s unfortunate Moyes never won anything but we did get to finals and semi finals under him and got knocked out by good teams.

Utd have been so successful since Moyes as well. It’s really showed him up. Ditto West Ham in the none Moyes years.

It’s mental isn’t it. I almost feel like we deserve to be relegated when we have fans sniping about a manager who did an unbelievable job and outperformed his predecessor’s and successors in virtually every season. Entitled deluded fans.

I would prefer someone better than Moyes if possible. But assuming any manager is better than Moyes just because they aren’t Moyes would be a big mistake. He might be the best option available for the next couple of years and if that that guarantees top 10 finishes and stability then I would take it.

‘Entitled deluded fans ‘ 😂
Don’t be ridiculous. What an arrogant statement.
Ultimately it’s just about preference,
I have been privileged to see three successful managers at Everton and Moyes was not one of them.
His football is limited, and that is a view that was ultimately shared by West Ham fans despite the trophy .
I respect him for those first 5 years, but he should have gone after that if we as a club had any ambition.
I go to the match hoping to see my team play exciting, aspirational football , not defensive limited football aimed to guarantee a draw .
Football is supposed to be an entertainment after all not a chore .
Amongst the group of supporters I had been going to the match with since the 70,s (all S/Ts and we went to most away games ) 5 drifted away from the game because of the style of football they were watching every match .
In the end it’s just personal preferences really.
You can watch and enjoy that style of football every week , but I can’t.

I always try to give credit where it is due. Moyes built a good side, made some fabulous ‘out of the blue’ signings and despite his fear of the so called big clubs, his best team (baines, pienaar, cahill, arteta) played some wonderful football. It didn't even upset me when he tried to nick Baines from us. I think he is a good man and a good manager. I simply don't believe (aside from a very few, very rare exceptions) that bringing old players or managers back ever works out. We must look forward now, none of this sentimentality. i dont want Sarri or Potter or anyone else like that. i would be delighted if we got someone new, up and coming, someone who can be flexible and adaptable in his playing style. I want a manager who can have them trying to outplay footballing teams, out-press high pressing teams or out-kick the cloggers. From my admittedly limited knowledge of the managers named in the poll, Corberan seems the best bet. He would be a risk, but they all are. Better we go for someone fresh and roll the dice, than go for an old comfort blanket?

Have it both ways, mate.

Was this the reasing game where our main striker didnt show up till half time?

Or the wigan game which was Nevilles last professional game of football and fellaini decided he couldn't be bothered playing cm anymore because he liked playkng further forward and basically refused to track anyone or tackle anyone?

Sime fact of the matter was moyes operated on a shoe string and as such didnt have the resources to manage league and cup runs. He always prioritized the league because he had too.
So are we giving him a pass for not managing his players properly as well, now?

Honestly, lads. It seems like there is always an excuse for Davey.
