I think there were FM frequencies eventually given over to CB radio. Most people stayed on the illegal AM range though.

Was it was Jasper Carrot who pointed out that it was the illegal aspect of it that interested most people? After all Mickey Mouse asking Zorro for an eyeball is intrinsically naff and, once actually legal, just plain embarrassing ...
 

This was back when you actually leased the phones from the phone company. This is from the late '70s to early '80s. Worth a fortune to purchase them today as a collectable - - To think landlines in the UK will be virtually extinct in 18mths -2 years -

I bought my house in 1986 and one of the big selling points was that it had a phone line. It could take over two years to get a phone line installed.
 
Got chatting to a nice young couple today.

They had a lovely Greyhound on a lead.

'Mick The Miller' , I inquired?

They had no idea what I was talking about.
