The sale of Fellaini

Fellaini polarises opinion to a ridiculous degree. One of the camps is obviously wrong and that is the one that wants to see him in another shirt. For too long we've kept s**** and sold the only talent we have and always on the promise of jam tomorrow. An old tired first 11 yet we appear to want to sell our chief asset to bring in squad players.

But to be honest mate, what other options are there?
We are limited to selling assets to fund for the team, if we can get a big amount (£25mill +) then we can ultimately use that and buy 2 or 3 good players. Mirallas was only £6million, so I'm sure there are more bargains out there.

Using the money wisely is much more important, which is the thing that worries me if Moyes does leave, he is good at business and if he did have a decent pot to spend then we could be in a decent position come this summer.

His value would have went down after last week.

We would be extremely lucky to get £30m for him, really need him to perform over the next few months.

The only teams that would pay £30m+ would be Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid.

In bold... I just don't see it. At all. Real Madrid and Fellaini just don't go.

How many assists has Mata got??? Loads he's a proper "no 10"

*sigh*

I never said anything about his assists, or his playstyle, i was just telling you that he's scored an impressive amount of goals. You made it sound like him scoring 12 goals wasn't much to write home about, when in fact it's a great achievement for a guy who isn't even a striker.

I read something interesting on either this forum or another.

In regards to the praise he gets for the signings of Pienaar, Arteta etc. Someone said Moyes only got those signings because that's the only market he could look at. I.e cheap loan deals and out of favour players. He also had the benefit of being a 'well known, established PL team" which helped him further get those signatures.

The only reason i want to sell Fellaini is because he's the one we'll get the most money for.

He is undoubtedly a top draw defensive midfielder, or destructive, whatever you want to call it and he is also a good option up top when nothing else is working.

I'd much rather we could keep him, but the squad won't get improved.

I don't know mate, if the top 3 teams came in and we had a say in his asking price (£30 million) then we could vastly improve in areas that haven't been strengthened under Moyes. Sure, ultimately no one knows how much we'll get to spend when he does go but I'm pretty confident that we'll strengthen.

We've proven on a few occasions this season that we can win without him, but our style of play has always suffered to a certain degree, much recently I might add as it's got too one dimensional. We need to replace him with a Leroy Fer type, and another top striker. If we did that in the summer, I'd be very happy because it wouldn't necessitate long balls all the time, and with our strong wing partnerships we need to build on their skills and create a more positive attacking philosophy.

It's a pipe dream, but the foundations are there, as demonstrated earlier on in the season, I'm glad we signed Mirallas just for that very reason alone.

True but he's made big risks. Baines, Jagielka, Cahill. All signings who played an awful lot of Championship football, the first two playing for a fair few seasons. Moyes took risks with those signings alone.

Just because you are restricted to a smaller budget doesn't mean it's easier to get players, I would say it's harder, because you know that if you blow it on one player (from a Championship side) then you're screwed.

And just because you're 'well established' doesn't mean we can always afford someone either. Or their wages.

I don't think anybody wants to see him in another shirt.

The reality is that we need money to improve the squad, and selling Fellaini is the best chance of doing so. Mirallas cost £6m, we might get £25m for Fellaini. Think about it...

Don't have to think about it. We have seen this done before. We simply cannot go on selling our best assets.

It seems like it's an Abramovich directive that David Luiz has to be in the side and he's been much better as a midfielder than a centre back. Lampard has been playing alongside him but they also have Ramires and Mikel. Maybe they're interested in stockpiling Belgians (Courtois, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku)? He could be awesome for them or he could find that being a small fish in a big pond difficult to adjust to, as with Torres and Ba.

City are fully-stocked on holding midfielders: Barry, Rodwell, Garcia.

It's hard to tell whether there would be a scramble for his services or whether it's paper talk. I expected more of a tug of war for Rodwell and I was surprised that he ended up at City. United traditionally have combatitive central midfielders (Robson, Keane, Ince) but have had a soft centre recently. Maybe they could be a surprise destination for him?

I agree, no one 'wants' to sell their best players. But there aren't any other options. Unless the TV money in summer does something significant then I don't see what other options are out there.

Fellaini is a disposable asset, he's foreign and has no loyalty either. I wouldn't upset if he was sold in the summer, but I wouldn't be smiling either. If Baines went, I would be really annoyed.

I don't think we'll need to sell him but it could be quite convenient if he chooses that he wants to go on and better himself, like Rooney, Lescott and Arteta. He's been loyal and stuck with us longer than many people expected, even when his dad was agitating for a move, so we can't really blame him. With the amount of money sloshing around this summer we should be able to get top price.

I think he'll end up abroad in all honesty. We'll most likely be obstinate in his valuation and want a lot of money, we've been good negotiators in the past.

I don't see how he'll fit in some of those teams you mentioned. And I do genuinely think he's very inconsistent, especially against sides who out muscle him. I doubt his attitude will be better at any other club as well, but I can see him play for PSG.

Baines is a disposable asset, who stays because it suits his private life and btw great going forward but poor defensively for me.
