Barry's too old. Better player than mccarthy but no point buying a 32 year old on big wages.
McCarthy might cost a lot in a fee but he'll at least have a chance of paying off long term.
Take barry on loan, though.

On loan Barry would be decent backup for our centre midfielders. Would rather he played there than Heitinga. He obviously did something right to get in Man City's team. Although, id prefer James Milner, out wide he is shockingly bad, in the middle he is actually good, was brilliant there for Aston Villa.
Sounds like it is a loan being mooted. Which I'd have no objection to.
