The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

Our midfield is not excellent!

We have 2 very good CM players and 2 attacking ACM players. One may be leaving and one is injury prone. After them 2 we have NO natural CM back up. Osman and Barkley are attacking CM players not deeper CM players and should be fighting it out for the ACM role only ideally. We need at LEAST 1 CM coming in (yes I'd take Barry). That would still leave Osman having to fill in if both were out injured/suspended, so in a perfect world we probably need 2.

CM is the priority, which is clear for anyone to see.

I seem to be in a minority of 1 but i thought Osman was ok yesterday playing slightly deeper. Out of all the midfield he was the one looking to collect off of the back four and start to build attacks. He seemed pretty disciplined sitting in there. Yes he made one or two dodgy passes but overall he was nowhere near as bad as some are making out.

Whether he can do it consistently over a season i do not know, but he is good back-up when we need him

If we do have £20m this summer, I would have signed sign 2 good players then sign 2/3 freebie as squad players.

can you name these 2/3 freebies please?

This season yes. But our squad is ageing what happens down the line when other clubs keep investing and we do not.

Do you know where funding for transfers will come from three years down the line? From selling Barkley.

liverpool have invested more than us for as many consecutive seasons as i can remember, yet we've finished above them 2 years in a row, probably will again this one.

Yeeah mate, I agree he played all right yesterday. But why not get someone who's more accomplished in that role as backup? It'll be better if Gibbo gets injured again (which he probably will) or if Fellaini gets injured/suspended etc...

Oh i agree mate in an ideal world i would love to get another one in whose natural position is just in front of the back four but as a squad member Ossie is alright and seemed quite accomplished at doing that specific role yesterday.

Here's hoping by the end of the window Bk has stumped up a little bit more to strengthen the areas that need it. For me we are massively light up top. I think Jelavic/Kone and Anichebe are all ok but we need that little something extra, unfortunately that little something extra costs a lot of money which for whatever reason we do not have.

Jose Canas the Real Betis holding midfielder Swansea got for free impressed me yesterday against United - just the type of player we need to replace Osman - excellent distributor of the ball from the back and the centre -
maybe Martinez should scout the top Spanish sides for a spare DM who will fit into his style of play -
or just give Oviedo a go -
we need to tighten our defence on our left hand side - like last season that was our soft underbelly yesterday with both goals coming from the left -
Baines is outstanding on attack but has his weaknesses in defence - playing so high up adds to the pressure -
maybe we can try him in Osmans place as def mid - which will bring him closer to the action up front which is his forte

Let me get this right you want to play a left back in defensive midfield . No

His train of thought is generally correct though - we need someone with a bit more stature who is comfortable with the ball at feet but won't be ran past like he's not there.

Gareth Barry would actually be a good term solution with that criteria in mind.

It's clear as day we need a centre mid, I would of said a striker if we didn't buy kone and jelavic was still ****e but he's improved and kone has come in. We now have a quantity of players who can chip in with a few goals instead of having one striker who scores most of the goals like other teams. If jelavic can get 13 goals mirallas kone and anchibe get 8 each and then fellani Barkley and pienaar get 5 goals each we should be ok.

We need someone who can collect the ball and play it quickly to the attackers . Maybe that psg midfielder chantome on loan could work. My ultimate player would be Honda though as he can play deep or attacking mid

Don't think we'v any chance of seeing another striker bought unless jelavic was sold. We have 3 average to good strikers. Would love to see a real quality striker bought even if it ment the end for jelavic but its highly unlikely I'd say. Kone was our big summer forward signing it seems.

Still hoping beyond hope Kone comes good. I'd love him to make a fool of me and net twenty this year.

Priority has to be a central midfielder and possible an experienced inside forward. Pienaar is off form and will be until he grows his hair back methinks and Deulofeu is too raw to be relied upon.

Definitely a central mid first though.

I agree mate, be nice to have both a holding midfielder and a good quality forward but hey ho i am sure the three forwards along with Mirallas/Barkley/Fellaini and Baines can score the goals we will need.

Victor Moses is doing the rounds again. He has been "spotted in Merseyside" today.....
