Stones is a right back so he will be cover for Coleman, that leaves just Duffy as cover which is very risky if Johnny goes, so another experience defender is needed to replace Johnny.

Stones has been playing at Centre back for the under 21's, I think the long term plan is to make a centre back out of him.

Could be wrong though.

Heitinga will be gone. If Distin and Jags got injured it would only leave 2 young lads in defence, which if it did happan the same people on here would be saying why didnt he bring someone in. Decent signing to bulk up the squad if you ask me.

People keep saying this. And I agree now.

But i'm not seeing him linked with anyone.

I know a fair bit about Stones from his Barnsley days, they played him at RB & he was fantastic there, but they knew he'd be a CB as he developed. He can play both positions. They rated him as being better than any youth player they'd ever had.

And if jags and distin stay fit the majority of the year, we play alcaraz as first sub and duffy and stones leave to get first team football elsewhere and then distin and jags both suffer careeer ending injuries, you'd likely start crying "oh why didn't I listen to that handfsome artetafan, what a fool I was".

See isn't arguing easy when you can predict the future and put words in other people's mouths?

If we do get Alcaraz and get rid of Heitinga it will be a good move for us. I don't see him as a regular starter, but could see him coming in for games if Martinez see's 3 at the back would be the right tactic.

Said it before in this thread, but if Alcaraz signs for Everton I'm almost 100% certain he will partner Jags in defence and Distin will be the back up player. Martinez wants a defender that brings the ball out of defence. Something where Alcaraz is a lot better at as both Jags and Distin.

The more I hear about Alcaraz the more I'm convinced, Wigan were always a better team with him in the side and last season he didn't play much and surprise surprise they went down. On a free as well it's very good business, get a couple of million for Heitinga, save the money on his roughly £60k p/w wages, reckon Alcaraz would only be on about £30k max if he signed. Paraguay international too, so not a bad player at all to pick up for free.

Jermaine Defoe being released from Spurs - aged 30.

If we signed him it might stop him scoring against us :) ... of course he could score o.g.s.

For sale, not released - Adebayor has been told he can take his banjo elsewhere too. As has Andros Townsend, who might be worth a punt.
