with wigan after stones in jan I can see him getting games this season

Stones will only get a game if Coleman is injured.

I know that Martinez doesn't fully comprehend the concept of the full back, but he'd be an utter fool to start Stones over Coleman for any reason other than injury.

Unsure myself after reading some of these posts, TBH mate. I know we bought him as a RB. And that he featured as a RB for Barnsley.

I reckon he's a RB. If he can play as RB or CB, it'd deffo be a 'Moyes' signing, like. Loves his utility players, he does.

Hope he gets a run out in the cup games etc against the lower league opposition though. Interested to see what he's like.

He's got the potential to be a CB, I think that Duffy and Stones could be our long term RF/LF CB replacements for Distin and probably Jagielka.

It's been a while since I've seen Duffy play, but all I've heard is positive things. I think with Martinez in charge he'll use our squad a bit more, and with the recent comments about using the youth we'll probably see him used.

John Stones has played 24 games for Barnsley at right back and never in the Premier League. Tony Hibbert has represented us 259 times and has played at centreback under Moyes in an emergency. Would you rather play two academy players (Stones and Duffy) instead?

Heitinga is probably going. If he isn't then he was our player of the year not so long ago and was good enough to play in a World Cup final. Playing regularly and having two central defenders alongside him come help him to rediscover that form.

I think Naismith could be our version of Kuyt and score some important goals. He has struggled to adapt but he's been asked to play in a new position and he hasn't featured very much, so it's understandable.

Gueye will find a new club in France I expect. If we're going to have players like that in the squad they need to be contenders for a starting position otherwise they might as well not be there.

Osman broke into the England squad and scored only one fewer than our second top scorers (Mirallas and Anichebe) in all competitions, despite playing for much of the season in a deeper role. We might as well try and accommodate him in the side. And if Mirallas or Barkley played in front of Coleman they're likely to leave him exposed, which will mean that he won't be able to get forward as much. Ossie could do for him what Pienaar has done for Baines on the other side.

What is your amazing idea? Get rid of Heitinga, Naismith, Gueye and Osman? We might get about £8m for the lot if we're lucky. That would cover Fer's transfer fee. Now how are you going to cover the other three positions?

Do you watch us or football in general billy? Your ideas are way out there....Osman or Barkley RW? Eh! Guaye and Naismith? What! Heitinga? Pfft! Don't get your thinking mate at all...

Anyway my opinion is...

First Yes 100%, we need another GK as a priority. We only have Howard. Ideally if funds permit and the right quality is available we need a younger option to Howard who can challange him and eventually replace Howard. If none available a free stop gap for a year to play back up is the minimum required.

At the back, Heitinga needs to go. I dont care if hes played a world cup final or had 3 good months for us, hes a poor CB. Probably so too does Duffy on loan. Stones is mooted as a possible future CB, but will be nowhere near our central defense next season. Nor to will hibbert unless of some major freaky injurie scenario. I also don't see Martinez going 3 at the back. We need 1 or 2 CB coming in (lescott & alcaraz) would surfice. 5M

In Midfield your presuming fellaini goes and Fer is the replacement next to Gibson. I think Fer looks a good signing. I also think Martinez will re-jigg our midfield to play a 4-3-3 with a deep lying CM (Gibson) and 2 CM just in front a box-to-box and a playmaker (Fer, Osman, Barkley, pienaar) fighting it out for those more advanced roles. A back up for Gibson is needed (unless lundstrum is ready).

As said I think he will change to more of a 4-3-3, meaning our wide men pushed further up in a 3 pronged attack. Mirallas on the left (his best posistion) and sign a new striker and RWF as well as a winger/forward for back up. Selling Naismith, Guaye and maybe even jelavic.

Haven seen alot of him int eh u21s, he's good on the ball and lieks to get forward, very much a right back IMO

I would be hesitant to spend our small budget on a GK.
Not because Howard is so great (though I do still think he is a good prem keeper) but because supposedly we have 2 very good prospects in the reserves in Springthorpe and Taudul.

If we think these kids are (or can be) the real deal, Howard is plenty good to be our top keeper for another year or so until they push through. Of course, I have not seen either (though I feel like I saw Taudul a year ago somewhere, maybe a national team game?), so if others have, maybe you can offer insight. I just know both were very highly touted and if they are close, I'd love to start seeing them as the backup vs a highly paid backup who may keep them from experience.

He's 19. We can't expect him to run the show for us.

Age is irrelevant. He's 2 years older than fabregas and Wiltshire when they were doing just that anyway. And I didn't say he should be running the show for us, but I don't see why he shouldn't be considered as a reserve in what will be his best position in the future.

Maybe we could go in for Douglas? On a free transfer, and that clown Kinnear has just pulled the plug on the deal that Newcastle nearly had with him.

Only 25 as well.

Agreed a pre contract with him on FM just, it's on.

Alright, let's bin Osman and put Barkley alongside Gibson. I'm sure that he wouldn't go chasing around after the ball and leaving big holes, making rash tackles, getting caught in possession, giving the ball away or freezing. It's not as if it's a position that carries much responsibility.I'm pretty sure that anyone can do it. I can't understand why Moyes didn't think of it.

I know we've got international players like Fellaini and Mirallas who could play off the striker but we should definitely put a lad with 13 appearances there instead. He'll know exactly how to work between the lines, he won't be overly selfish by trying to beat men or shoot when a better option is on and he'll definitely score as many as Fellaini.

Playing Coleman in a less responsible role in midfield to introduce him to the team was a terrible idea and I certainly wouldn't recommend it for Barkley. It would be foolish not to put him straight in the deep end at the expense of a seasoned professional.

As you obviously didn't see the game, have a look at where Ross is playing mate, looks shocking doesn't he like ^^

The second highlighted part of what you say is the exact reason we had Heitenga playing whilst being terrible game after game and costing us points over say Duffy, its exactly what saw Osman playing whilst being a passanger for the majoriity of games after his first England call up instead of getting Barkley more time
Its exactly the same thinking which saw the likes of Neville starting ahead of Gibson in the cup game vs Wigan
Its exactly why Moyes biggest flaw was developing through young players.

Barkley plays a great game away vs arsenal and is then dropped for a far easier home game and then dropped for a meaningless away game vs Chelsea in favor of Naismith ffs, yeah lad seasoned professionals is the way to go...

As for coleman dont make out that moyes playing him on the wing was some masterstroke of player development, he had no option this year but to play him at rb this year due to injuries and he made enough mistakes early season that Moyes would have dropped him if their was options, instead he developed by playing his correct position, learned from his mistakes and look at how he came on the rest of the season, if it was you though it would have been hibbert or neville all season long i reckon

Doubt it. Why would he want him here? He only played him 4 times last season... For WIGAN.

Thought the same, Lad who told me works for a paper (I've mentioned before) and i've put some info in here before from him & they seem pretty convinced.

He played 8 times including cup (4 league, 4 cup) will see how it goes.
