If Alcaraz was coming from say.....Anderlecht or even a club like Gent, with him being a Paraguayan international, people would be simply saying that he is a sensible pick up on a free and will provide good back up to Distin who is getting on a bit.

People are getting all confused because he is coming from Wigan, who stuck their neck out and actually bought him after the last world cup. it's a common error, called not looking at the bigger picture.

As for Kone at 5m, if we got 2 good seasons out of him there will be absolutely no fuss and he will have proved his worth at that price.

Kone scored goals in the Eredivisie.
People regularly cream themselves over players from there, Familiarity breads contempt I suppose.

People seem to prefer the exotic unknown.

People on here seem to think they know football better than our boss.

FFS Kenwright. Should have picked someone off here.

Christ, if Martinez picks James McCarthy for us i'd back him, and we all know how I feel about him!
Go see your doctor you're surely not well :P

Maybe so mate, but it wouldn't stop Moyes adding his own to the ones already there would it? Maybe I'm wrong, I just remember reading somewhere that our Chief scout either had, or was about to follow him to OT.

Not saying he WON'T. Just that he hasn't so far.

But I also read that Fellaini, Baines, Jags and Coleman were all following Moyes, so........

This all day.

I have been more impressed with our signings from "smaller" clubs than those from "bigger" - Neville, Howard, Saha, Davies - Gibson being the obvious exception.

Basically all players have to start somewhere. Who would have thought that someone like Solskjaer would become the player he was when he was signed from Tippeligaen?

Like i have said, the price is probably the only negative about the Kone transfer. If he gets us 10+ goals next season happy days. I don't think he'll be the only striker we bring in also.

Here is my football manager type prediction for this summer, bit predictable in places but I cannot see any other way.

Out
Fellaini
Heitinga

In
Alcaraz as a replacement for Heitinga
A central midfielder to replace Fellaini
Kone (by the sound of things)
A back up goalkeeper
Another midfielder (possibly a loan)

All of these in comings will still cost less than what is received in total for Fellaini and Heitinga, in fact, I am going to predict that on transfer fees alone there will be at least 10m less spent than is recouped.

This thread......what did people expect? We don’t have universal buy in from the fan base on the manager appointment and from that questions will be asked about new players.

Personally I will look to the table at the end of the season as a measure of success and let the squatters in the boardroom worry about how they sell it to the fan base.

theres lots of time to make signings.

Lads dont panic

Bobbys first signings will naturally be Wigan players.
After that he will work with his other targets

I'd agree, we need two additional forwards. Cost us badly last season having no options once Jelavic went off the boil.

We should judge the transfer window at the end of the summer.

I think if we had already sold Fellaini + Heitinga & brought in a couple of significant signings, THEN brought in the likes of Alcaraz, McGeady, Kone it would be seen in a different light.
