The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

No you're speculating that we're going to lose our best players and then speculating that we'll use the large ammount of money we would receive to buy players that are far poorer. Being overly negative for no good reason

I am just preparing for the worst here. Pessimistic is not a bad thing sometimes. You get bigger disappointment with more hope. Of course I want Baines and Fellaini stay but will they? Kenwright said Rooney was not for sale.

It's very much in his interests not to give in though isn't it? If he doesn't sell Baines at a price we could all live with, it would make him hugely unpopular.

I don't know. I think £10m for Arteta was too cheap especially for a desperate club coming in on the last day of the window.

Was a year on his contract though, hence why it was £10m. About right.

His contract was till June 2015.

Sources: Toffeeweb player profile section of Arteta.

In the summer of 2010, despite no place in the Spanish World Cup team, Arteta was rumoured as the target of a big money move to Man Utd, Spurs, Arsenal then Man City. This was after some scurrilous Daily Mail crap about his partially sighted son being the reason he would return to Spain. With 2 years left to run on his contract, Moyes and Kenwright pulled out all the stops to keep him in the Goodison camp as the team jetted off to Australia... and a couple of weeks after they returned, secured the Best Little Spaniard on a new five-year, £75k-a-week deal.

I find this quote from Bill worrying. Referring to Martinez's squad, "He wants to hold on to it but he also wants to bring in two or three players in the positions were we need them". I think we need more than 2 or 3. The teams around us are getting stronger, swansea's strike force will be bony and michu, Liverpool have strengthened. Even the teams who finished low like villa have signed 6 low priced players and some of them look like gems.

It's ****ing sickening...

If we are losing our 2 best players in a window this ain't a good sign to attract good players with high calibre. A very wrong message to the team and to the public. I hope no more players will jump ship.

This dislike of the Kone signing can only stem from the fact he's 29 and not 25 surely? This guy was really good last season. He is better than Anichebe and Jelavic, he will offer another dimension to the side, a dimension that's needed- the ability to stretch teams with his pace, the ability to dribble, the ability to hold the ball up and the ability to finish. If we only have 2 years then so be it, it will be worth potentially another 9 points for those 2 seasons and that could make a big difference. We don't have £20m to spend on Benteke or Negredo.

Thats true about Kone...and of course Martinez will allow him the chance to play to his strengths. He is not a player that would have flourished under Moyes but he has already proved that he can play well,in a system that Martinez might use. It would be a sensible signing, and I think he could play well alongside Chebes, Jelavic or Mirralas, and complement any of them.
