The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

11 in 33 for a relegated side isn't bad, but £5m for a 30 year old who's had one alright season in the Premier League? Mental.

I have to agree spending £5 million on an average 30 year old striker from Wigan is crazy and very short sighted from Roberto. I hope it's just rumours. We need to spend the little we have on youngsters for the future.

I used to like Moyes policy of saving the tiny bit of money he had to improve the first team.

Spurs are linked with Villa and we are linked with Kone. Where is the ambition Everton ?!

So far we have lost Moyes and pissed off the fans with an amateurish new logo. The summer hasn't started to well I pray it get s better.

How old was Distin when he signed.

Kone is boss there is said it.
Distin has played well, but how much of that 5 million will we get back? Nothing is the answer so it wasn't a good deal business wise.

He's a good defender, but we'll need to replace him with another good defender in 12 months time and with what money?

Defenders age better than strikers too by the way. A lot less running to do.

Well yeah but he's performed well on the pitch.

If that doesn't matter the club might as well be a group on the stock exchange.

I agree partly with what your saying, but getting value for money does is not only related to sell on value, its how valuable they were for the club. I have no doubt in saying Distin was well worth the money we spent on him. It's similar to saying that we don't want Baines to stay at the club for the rest of his career as we would miss out on profit. I would rather Baines played for us till the end of his career and play at the same level he is now for all of that time than cash in for 20 million or so.

Kone is certainly not the player I would of chose and i dont agree with the fee reported but some people are getting on Martinez's back way too fast for this signing in my opinion. If he stayed at the club for the rest of his career (Kone) and scored double figures each season then that's worth 5 million. It's more than our strikers can score. Even if Kone scored 10-15 goals next season, we could sell him for about 7-8 million the season after. I do still stand by my point that we will bring a first team striker in when/if player sales comes in. Kone would not be the worst addition to our squad.

Lets not get on his back now (Kone) , we can get on his back at the end of the season if he doesn't perform. And if he scores 15-20 goals I'm pretty sure this hate on him "didn't happen".

Hasn't a scout of ours admitted to interest in Johansen?

Correct. Bryan King was interviewed on Norwegian TV during the u21 Euros saying Johansen was a player with great talent and that we had been following him for a while. He also said he was very impressed with what he had seen from him during the Euros.

Agreed. While he isn't my choice for how to spend 5m, i think there is a reasonable level of performance where he is well worth it, even without sell on value.

So question to the thread, what would he have to reach to justify 5m today?

I say if he can bang in 36-45 goals in the next 3 seasons, i don't care if he has no sell on value after that (even though it seems likely even at 33-34 with that sort of return he'd still be worth 2m or so.) Avg 12-14 a year over 3 years, gladly take it...

'What does he have to do to justify a 5mil write off from the accounts'?

We'll not much really as it's impossible. No matter what he delivers himself the money is spent.

The cash should be spent on a young player with potential who can improve.

Makes me laugh, talk of lack of ambition. We are skint, we lack money not ambition. Do you own a Ferrari or a Ford? Just because you drive a Ka doesnt mean you lack ambition, just cash!
