I wouldnt mind Kone at all. I think he will be good for us.
Martinez will surely sign younger blood too, theres no doubt in me mind.
This doomsday mongering is getting a bit hilarious.
£5m maybe peanuts for a striker to other clubs but it could be our whole transfer budget without player sales.
When was the last time we signed a player before any sales? People need to be happy we're signing a good striker before we've sold anyone.
So we should be "happy" that we're signing a player, any player, because we haven't sold first no matter who that player is?When was the last time we signed a player before any sales? People need to be happy we're signing a good striker before we've sold anyone.
Well not really. All that'd tell me is one of two things:
a. A significant player (Baines or Fellaini) is on his way out.
b. The board is that stupid that they'd sell Heitinga without
Right.
I'm starting to wonder if some Evertonians have ever been in a transfer window before.
It's all very well getting worried, and having a panic but really there is no need to right now.
What exacty has happened? Nothing. No players in. The only players out were utter tripe.
If someone is telling me that Kone, Alcaraz and McGeady aren't better than Neville, Hitzelsperger and probably Heitinga then OK MATE.
But the fact remains nothing has happened. Not a ball has been kicked.
Look around what teams have actually done business that you are jealous of? Liverpool? nah. Norwich? A striker with a funny name who Sporting Lisbon weren't arsed about losing - nah. Man United?! Nah.
The names we've been linked with, may mean jack. They may mean something. They may feel underwhelming. But I tell you this, Roberto Martinez knows more about football than you.
I say this and mean it. If James McCarthy joins Everton then so be it. Mr Martinez knows more than me.
There was once one boss summer where we bought early. It was lovely. None of this panic.
But it's not the way it works usually.
And this summer has one very big difference. A brand spanking new manager. Yesterday was his first day proper. And yet people seem to be devastated he didn't sign anyone. On Day one. Have a word. He hasn't even got his mates around yet. And going from various media sources a load of the players aren't even back yet. (Wednesday I beleive).
All i'm asking for is a bit of calm.
There may well be time for panic. But that time isn't for now. Let us lose 2-0 at home to West Brom. Or concede a terrible late equaliser against Palace first.
That's when i'll be worried.
So we should be "happy" that we're signing a player, any player, because we haven't sold first no matter who that player is?
Do you think 6.5 million on an average 30 year old journeyman striker is good value?
You can pick up a Mirallas with that money with change left over FFS
Warming to Mcgeady now eh?!
And yes I'm jealous of the money Liverpool are spending because unless we strengthen they will finish above us next year.

They're our only sellable assets. Nobody else would generate any money. Nobody is gonna pay 10m for Barkley, Jagielka will be staying for probably the rest of his career, Howard isn't worth a carrot, Jelavic and Anichebe are worth a fiver a pop. Mirallas would fetch a bit, but he won't leave for another few seasons at least.
Other teams use new managers to make a statement of intent with their signings. We end up with Alcatraz and Kone from relegated Wigan.
