The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I have to agree spending £5 million on an average 30 year old striker from Wigan is crazy and very short sighted from Roberto. I hope it's just rumours. We need to spend the little we have on youngsters for the future.

I used to like Moyes policy of saving the tiny bit of money he had to improve the first team.

Spurs are linked with Villa and we are linked with Kone. Where is the ambition Everton ?!

So far we have lost Moyes and pissed off the fans with an amateurish new logo. The summer hasn't started to well I pray it get s better.

Villa is 31 mate.

Kone is better than we have got currently. Can't afford to give Jelavic a full season again just to see if he starts slotting again as it could cost us big time again. Anichebe will never be prolific. If kone can give central defenders the kind of grief he gave Jags Distin/heitinga last season I will be more than happy. We cannot afford big name strikers and to buy a young player with potential is more of a gamble.

Martinez could be putting pressure on himself by signing Kone IMO. If he has a poor 2nd season in the pl like many strikers do then the fans could get on the managers back. Think it's a mistake but I hope I'm wrong.

Correct. Bryan King was interviewed on Norwegian TV during the u21 Euros saying Johansen was a player with great talent and that we had been following him for a while. He also said he was very impressed with what he had seen from him during the Euros.

Read some really promising things about this lad. Can pick a pass, works hard, can play as a deep lying playmaker which would appear to suit Martinez's style of play. £1.5m could be a bargain

Fer today, Kone tomorrow

Sorry, just bored and playing a twist on the old "here today gone tomorrow" saying.

I agree partly with what your saying, but getting value for money does is not only related to sell on value, its how valuable they were for the club. I have no doubt in saying Distin was well worth the money we spent on him. It's similar to saying that we don't want Baines to stay at the club for the rest of his career as we would miss out on profit. I would rather Baines played for us till the end of his career and play at the same level he is now for all of that time than cash in for 20 million or so.

Kone is certainly not the player I would of chose and i dont agree with the fee reported but some people are getting on Martinez's back way too fast for this signing in my opinion. If he stayed at the club for the rest of his career (Kone) and scored double figures each season then that's worth 5 million. It's more than our strikers can score. Even if Kone scored 10-15 goals next season, we could sell him for about 7-8 million the season after. I do still stand by my point that we will bring a first team striker in when/if player sales comes in. Kone would not be the worst addition to our squa

Lets not get on his back now (Kone) , we can get on his back at the end of the season if he doesn't perform. And if he scores 15-20 goals I'm pretty sure this hate on him "didn't happen".

Spot on.

Come on you guys, I for one find it refreshing that a day after starting the job Martinez is already close to signing two players, who if not going straight into the starting 11 will be pushing for a starting place and increase competition.

Woah, everyone, we have an ITK!

Tell us who they are Dane.

I wouldnt mind Kone at all. I think he will be good for us.
Martinez will surely sign younger blood too, theres no doubt in me mind.

This doomsday mongering is getting a bit hilarious.

Right.

I'm starting to wonder if some Evertonians have ever been in a transfer window before.

It's all very well getting worried, and having a panic but really there is no need to right now.

What exacty has happened? Nothing. No players in. The only players out were utter tripe.

If someone is telling me that Kone, Alcaraz and McGeady aren't better than Neville, Hitzelsperger and probably Heitinga then OK MATE.

But the fact remains nothing has happened. Not a ball has been kicked.

Look around what teams have actually done business that you are jealous of? Liverpool? nah. Norwich? A striker with a funny name who Sporting Lisbon weren't arsed about losing - nah. Man United?! Nah.

The names we've been linked with, may mean jack. They may mean something. They may feel underwhelming. But I tell you this, Roberto Martinez knows more about football than you.

I say this and mean it. If James McCarthy joins Everton then so be it. Mr Martinez knows more than me.

There was once one boss summer where we bought early. It was lovely. None of this panic.

But it's not the way it works usually.

And this summer has one very big difference. A brand spanking new manager. Yesterday was his first day proper. And yet people seem to be devastated he didn't sign anyone. On Day one. Have a word. He hasn't even got his mates around yet. And going from various media sources a load of the players aren't even back yet. (Wednesday I beleive).

All i'm asking for is a bit of calm.

There may well be time for panic. But that time isn't for now. Let us lose 2-0 at home to West Brom. Or concede a terrible late equaliser against Palace first.

That's when i'll be worried.
