never see the 7 goals arsenal used to knock past us at will most seasons

*using 7 as an example, obviously there were 6's and 4's hidden in there also.

That can happen on occasion obviously, and was talking about our current cb's really.... It's something that follows Martinez around. It's the way the 2 goals were scored...a carbon copy of Wigan vs arsenal end of season when even the commentators were questioning the high line Wigan were playing and they were gonna get caught out. Just as it was clear we were gonna get caught out last night!

Maybe I'm not giving enough credit to the top team and world class player we were up against...

It was arguably the second best forward line in world football. Have faith our defenders are a level above Wigans. They are learning a new system it will take time, don't panic yet.

i know the mirror reports the big 4 looking at him but i see them being pre-occupied with their Big Name signings Fabregas Rooney Suarez e.t.c

this kid only has a year left on his contract and im sure a bid between the 4-5m mark would be enough plus i can't see his wages being above that of Kone's supposed 50 k a week

young fast creative attack minded striker with the ability to also cover right wing....only seen him play twice...one of those he scored a scorcher, and i know it dosen't mean much but always one of my first buys on fifa....only coz i reserve most the money for Jackson Martinez....

what ya'll think

I doubt he'd get a work permit in the Uk mate.

Alderweireld would be great for Martinez's system, he is decent on the ball and a good defender, an improvement on what we have.

watching highlights of QPR game and listening to reports from Madrid match, I still think we are missing a trick with Barton. issues with him maybe but snapping up players with flaws and ironing them out is what we do at our best. We have no-one who plays the way he does and it could really ignite us, or if it doesn't work then am sure he will insist moving on quickly himself.

Barton wants to stay in France and that is were he will stay, also on his tweet indicated he wpuld stay at QPR if recalled, watch the news!!

I know we have quite a few centrehalves, Distin is still playing really well but he is turning 36 in a few months, Alcarez is only in for depth and is no long term option, Heitinga isn't good enough and Duffy is still pretty unproven and so that really only leaves Jags and Stones who are irreplaceable and Stones probably isn't every ready to be a regular starter just yet.

So if we were to sell Heitinga and buy Alderweireld that would mean Distin, Jags and Alderweireld all start, Alcarez and Stones will be back ups and it would allow Duffy to go out on a loan. I know people say we've got a lot of centre halves but when you've got three of them playing you do need to have three of them playing in the you're going to need quite a few of them. When you also consider we've only got three at the back I think it's important to have very good centre halves there so I would love us to strengthen our backline by signing Alderweireld.

But in saying that we still need to get a central midfielder first.

Pretty sure Alderweireld has played as a holding midfielder as well as centre back, he's certainly comfortable on the ball. If so he'd be an ideal signing

My worry CB wise is RM tactics. Last night was a real eye opener. With quality fast fire power against us Roberto (as he did at Wigan) clearly believe's a high line is the best tactic, it cost him several points at Wigan and its gonna cost us too. Doesn't matter who we have at CB playing tactics like that. I've never seen us ever defend and look as vulnerable as that before (sorry once, against utd, when moyes said after he was fuming at what our defenders did) it was worrying to see. I hope to god RM learns from his mistakes, because I have no doubt he's defensively naive currently.

...my concern too. I posted similar on R.Madrid the match thread. RM clearly wants his own stamp on the team and I don't think our CB are suited to that style. Square pegs, round holes = accident waiting to happen.

People worrying about our defence being caught on the counter attack, I understand where you're coming from but there won't be many teams we play next season that can counter attack like Real Madrid.

We'll be sweet.

Whilst I know what your saying, and its true not many can do it to such devastating affect as real and ronaldo, teams will still do it and it will catch us out if we continue playing like that. End of the day leaking goals means we will have to score more. Not our strongest trade.
