THE SUMMER OF 12: EVERTON PLAYER TRANSFER RUMOUR THREAD. IN AND OUT.

Im gonna go out there and say that David Moyes would rather sell ANY other of our players than Baines.

I know this might sound exaggerated but Moyes literally loves our Number 3. He even slipped it into a post-match interview after a game that Distin played left back that we were missing our 'best player' and still did well. Moyes knows that we have other saleable assets that we could shift and use the money to improve without the sale of his boy wonder.

I just cannot see this deal going through. I dont think Man Utd will have Evra as their captain one season and then see him on the bench the next. He is 31 if im not mistaken - hardly ready for the crap heap. Fergie needs a CM or 2 and a replacement for Berbatov before he spends over £12 million on a full back.

I think we should be more wary of Fella or even Jellyfish leaving than Bainesy. Plus Pienaar and Baines comes as a pair. Why would we spend £5 Million or so on Pienaar if the guy who links up with him telepathically is sold.

Sorry lads, I just dont see it. But i have been wrong before!

Leighton

I honestly think this will be a bad move for Bainesy, yes he will get a pay rise and play in front of 75K and in CL but Utd are a declining force, Arsenal, Chelsea and City will all be better next season and the pressure and expectation on him to replace Evra will be immense. I fear a couple of bad defensive performances and they will turn on him and force him into his shell.

Also selling him for under 20m would make no sense as the bank will take half of the money, it will cost us to replace him and I genuinely think Pienaar will have doubts about re-signing.

All in all I please Leighton, please dont go!!!

Well, if they don't, they'll have to find 6m somewhere else to go to the bank.

My point is that if we're going to sell out best player, we KNOW the banks will take a chunk. So we've got to get top dollar and get not one but two players in before the rest hits the bank. Selling our best player and getting a slightly worse one in without strengthening other areas is a shocking way to do business.

They can pound sand for 12m though. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Losing Baines would mean changing the way Everton play.

I don't think this will happen to be honest. And even if it does the lescott debacle showed you can't come and take our best players cheaply.

United were a minute away from winning the league so I don't think the decline is anything as steep as you suggest and with a few good buys they will be back in the mix for big trophies.

I thought that too but the Pie man has done well without Baines recently. If selling Leighton meant we'd get Stevie P back, I'd snatch SAF's hand off!

My gut says he won't be off unless we have to sell.

Wouldn't blame him for wanting to leave though, come December we'll be 16th and we'll all be pulling our hair out wondering why our left back is our top scorer with 3 pens...again.

At the top of the Everton Forum is a transfer thread.

Can we please put everything in there for the moment.

Cheers.

I think the whole point of getting Pienaar back is pairing him with Baines, there isn't a large enough sample to say that Pienaar has done well without Baines. Not sure it makes much sense to trade one for the other. It will be a completely different team without Baines.

I don't think it's possible to overestimate Baines' importance to the squad.

Im afraid we wouldnt get £20m like some have suggested here.
from the bottom of me heart i hope bainesy stays. Sell someone else than felli or baines

To be honest Cahill owes us nothing.

I could see the Club allowing him to leave for free as a reward.

Plus hes a big earner.

How is leaving on a free a reward? Surely it doesn't make a difference to Tim personally if he's sold for 20p or for 100million?
