Bangkok is very expensive as is phuket.Going to Thailand on Monday for first time. I'm travelling for 3 weeks on my own so any advice gratefully received.
I'm planning a couple days in Bangkok then up to Chang Mai before flying down to the islands to do some diving before going to Phuket.
I'll tag @Bungle in now to inevitably highlight the seedier options but any general itinerary advice or tips where to go or avoid would be helpful.
Chang mai is polar opposite to Bangkok, much quieter and not quite as humid. The humidity in Bangkok is stifling, I find 2 days there more than enough.
Koh samui and phangnan are very commercial these days and expensive but the weather is more bearable being by the sea..
I spent several months on samui back in 2010, found it the best place for atmosphere...
Phuket is largely more of an Australian resort as they can fly directly in.
I'm sure you will love it, the Thai people are superb, don't be afraid of the street food, some of the best food I've ever tasted!
