Has anyone been to the northern end of South America recently?

I'm planning a month trip next easter and would like to look at the amazon rainforest area in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and then the likes of Honduras and Nicaragua.

Am keen to know how safe it is generally for tourists.

I was all over the continent last year, it's bloody massive so if you're only going for a month I'd tighten up the locations.
I'd imagine Venezuela is a definite no no by now, the place was pretty wild last year and situations have only gotten worse so I'd leave that out. Border control actually laughed at me entering the place.

In Brazil you would want to be hitting the south eastern end of the country, Rio, San Paulo, beaches and waterfalls but there are miles away from Peru/Columbia.

You can hit the amazon from several countries, don't just be thinking Brazil. Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname all have good trips and something different to see.

I'd go for Bolivia, Peru and Columbia for such a short trip, maybe one flight from Columbia to Peru and bus it to Bolivia then.

was in Colombia beginning of this year. Didn't go to the jungle but from what I've read it's safe for tourists around Leticia but you're best off flying there rather than overland if you're coming from inside Colombia.

Not sure about those countries specificity, but a mate of mine went to Chile during the summer (their winter) and absolutely loved it. The capital Santiago is out of this world apparently and if you decide to delve deeper into it you'll find some amount of beauty.

Would definitely love to go there myself, just seems to be quite expensive to get there.

done central america last year, was fine, heard of some petty theft here and there but nothing major

if you plan on rainforest there's plenty to choose from, cheapest amazon you'll find is bolivia though and well worth it, I think bolivia is suited to couple with peru for a good trip, hit lake titicaca and cross the border and all that

been colombia a couple of years ago, worth a trip all on it's own, sierra nevada is stunning

I think I've put this out before, but Montreal is a lovely city, very well worth the visit.
Absolutely! Had a friend's wedding in Montreal several years ago and planned our family vacation around it (Montreal, Quebec City and the Charlevoix). Loved just walking through the city, checking out St. Joseph's Oratory, Notre Dame and the Botanical Gardens. Seems almost impossible to have a bad meal there. Great restaurant scene
