Anyone managed to watch any local footy whilst travelling these exotic places??

Stories please.
I went to a game in Montevideo, Uruguay years ago, in about 2001 I think it was. Never again, there were proper running battles all over this big open air stadium, people snorting their brains out all over the place, just off the backs of their hands.
It had a moat and the police were on one side near the pitch and did hardly anything to stop the fighting.
Internationali I think one of the teams were called, can't remember the other.
Nice bar near there though called 'love story'. Man those South American girls are all that.

I presume you know about the brand new crisp $50 note you have to have on arrival for your visa. Sounds crazy but they won't accept an old one or if it's creased up. Try to keep it somewhere flat in your hand luggage. You may also need an LOI (letter of invitation)
I presume you are going with your work and they will know all about this, if you are going as a tourist then I'm not sure, but the travel agent should know.
I stayed in the Sedona hotel, not bad and just a few minutes walk from Aung San Suu Kyi's house. She was the woman who was imprisoned by the military, they call her 'the Lady', well worth going to see.
There's a couple of nice golf courses there.
You've got to go to the 'meat market' as well, it's a bar and is called the music bar but everyone calls it the meat market, a great big guitar outside on the wall, the hotel staff will know it.
Great place and the people are amazing, you should try some local delicacies too, field mice, snake and deep fried crickets :/

I've decided to put it off for a year, figured I'd try and save as much money as possible and stay in SE Asia for a couple of years if possible whilst I TEFL.

How much time do you have? Would recommend Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City but that's a good five hours to Ottawa iirc

I did 2 weeks on that very same route at the end of April/into May. 4 nights in Montreal, 2 in Quebec City, 2 in Ottawa then finished off with 5 days in Toronto. Blinding trip, absolutely loved it. Quebec City was ace, and Montreal even better - very cool/bohemic/arty

I could write a book - probably a few actually - about games I've see around the world. Must easily be 300 now, in about 70 countries. Best way of combining my wanderlust, passion for football and people-watching (ie blimping the local snatch and clocking the local lids' trainers).

That's a great trip right there. Spent two weeks in Quebec several years ago. One of my favorite trips. In addition to the cities, we loved the Charlevoix region

My trip was topped off by sitting next to a UK porn star on the flight home

What games stood out for you lad?
Have you been to all the big derbys around the world?:)

Casablanca Derby was utterly mental - the craziest and most dangerous one I've ever done (and can't imagine it being topped).

Was at Partizan v Red Star a few months ago and it was tame by comparison.

Dortmund v Schalke on a Friday night under the lights was a proper football match and atmosphere. Again, it made the Barca v Real and Inter v AC 'glamour' games look pathetic in comparison. The Madrid derby at Atletico was far noisier and edgy than el Classico.

I seen platinias play in Greece last year. Was a terrible game but was played in 34℃ heat so I didn't care.

I remember seeing haugesund play rosenborg about 10 years ago in Norway. Even the football costs a fortune over there.

Some nice pics there mate.

I'm off to Montenegro next month. Any info appreciated localnative

Absolutely incredible place, mate. The views are literally jaw dropping in Kotor - if you're visiting there I highly recommend doing the walk about the old city walls to the mountain overlooking the town. Make sure to bring appropriate footwear though and do it early in the morning - I done it in the middle of the day with the sun pumping down on me and it was tough. The views at the end are incredible though.

I recommend hiring a car if you can and visiting a few different places around the small country, I didn't but was only there for 5 days and just got by with the local buses.

Place is dirt cheap, even in the more expensive restaurants you'll eat out for under £15 and the local beer Nicksico is brilliant, one of the best beers i've had (plus under £1,50 everywhere).

Bosnia is a funny old place. Between Croatia and Montenegro which are two tourist heavy countries, Bosnia just seems like its really struggling. Visited the picturesque Mostar which looks like something out of Lord of the Rings. The locals aren't great with English language but really loved it when making an effort to say Hello and Thank You etc in Bosnian. Went kayaking on the coast and it was lots of fun, despite the guide not knowing a single word of English haha.

Croatia has absolutely boomed also. Was in Split last year and it was busy - but not overly so. This year trekked through Dubrovnik which i'll never do again. Nice enough place but the amount of tourists there is unreal and as a result the place is so expensive (the first beer I had cost £5 and never had one under £3 - that said I did eat and drink inside the city walls most nights). It cost £24 to walk both of the city walls which is scandalous. Also went through Split again though which really is an amazing place. Croatia as a country has developed so much in the past year, the roads are smooth and there is a shop at every corner.

Looking to go to Vegas next year but only want to do a few days there. What I want to know is, what is the drive like from Vegas to LA?

EDIT: Also what is the drive like up to Portland and maybe Seattle?

Ottawa is apparently very boring mate but nice road trip that, try and divert up north for a night on your travels.

Warning about Toronto FC, it's chocka full of kopite behaviour and actual Kopites. They think they have a kinship.

Montreal is ace. Enjoy.

Was just randomly searching and found this post. All 100% spot on. ;)
