Currently in Sydney for work so decided to make the 45 minute drive to see one of my old friends. Road is closed which made it a 90 minute journey, get to his house and he is not home. Back in the car for a 90 minute drive back to my hotel.

I knew I should have transferred my contacts when I got my new work phone last week.

Look up on it as an adventure !!

Bro's off to South America in Jan. Got flights etc booked. Doing Peru, Bolivia, somewhere, Argentina and flying back from Brazil. How much can he expect to spend on things like food/accom?

Thinking of heading to krakow april/may any tips/advice?
Is the auschwitz tour a full day same with the mines?
Anything else worth seeing/doing?
Would you want a hotel city centre or is there good public transport?
Cheers

Need some help in deciding where I'm off to this summer! Planning on going for 10-14 days some time in July and need to get the ball rolling now before prices become extortionate. Pretty set on Italy - just not on whereabouts in Italy!

Going with my girlfriend and it's hard to agree on places. Ideally, we'd like to move around 2-3 separate cities. Original plan was Naples for 4 nights, Palermo for 7 nights but after doing a bit of research I've seen Naples is a bit boring and Palermo is a 5 day max.

She wants some sort of beach, I just want places to see and good food. Anyone got any advice on compromise? We aren't planning on renting a car, always prefer to use public transport abroad.

@LocalNative went to Italy our first trip to Europe, thoroughly enjoyed it is a whole but absolutely loved Roma. Great history, staggering works of art in random piazas around random corners. Great food, just watch out for tourist-trap stuff. If some waiter tries to rope you in off the sidewalk, keep on moving. And a good travel hub.

Other spots we hit were Florence and Venice, so in pretty much the opposite direction.

don't know about beaches in Italy.

Wawel Castle well worth a visit, Schindler museum (not all about Schindler, occupation really), be prepared to come out of Auschwitz tour a changed person, salt mines are breathtaking.
Been a few times and always stayed on Armii Krajowej which is about 30 minute walk in or a few quid in a cab.
Beatiful but compact place.
Really touristy, but a trip to Nowa Huta in communist vehicles is a decent trip to book.
Can't help on nightlife or places to eat though.
Sitting in the old square watching the world go by is worth the trip itself.
Not used public transport - tended to walk everywhere once I got my bearings.

Me and my gf did exactly this last summer. 11 days total, 4 Rome, 3 Florence and 4 Venice (give or take 2 hr train rides). There's a place called Jesolo (about 1hr bus/coach) that you can get to just North of Venice around the coast which has loads of beach. In Venice we stayed on the mainland in/near Mestre. Still pretty easy to get into Venice proper and lots cheaper.

In Florence, if you go to the Ufzizi look at booking the day before, could spend a couple hours in the queue otherwise.

Have gone to Jesolo for the last 9 summers and going again this year, 13 km beach and loads of very reasonably priced bars and restaurants. We usually fly into Venice and get the local bus to Jesolo, but this year we are flying to Bologna, train to Venice, local bus to Jesolo and weekend back in Bologna after our week at the beach. Transport in Italy is pretty cheap and usually very dependable.

130 for 3 nights isn't bad at all - I'm just a tight sod. Is that town centre ish?
If the weather is good, a wander along the river bank eventually gets you to a large shopping mall, and there is another one by the main train station (didn't frequent either to be honest).
Tourist information is in the old town centre from memory, so loads of info there, and it won't be out of your way.
Auschwitz trip I went on was longer than half a day, so would be a long day with the salt mines which I think was a half day alone.
The Royal mile goes through the old town and ends at Wawel which I think was about a tenner for a day pass - but not open on Mondays from memory. Only extras when you're in are to climb the bell tower (steep, twisty, probably contravenes every H&S rule in the book), and for a quid you could view da Vinci's Lady in Ermine (think this has moved though to the museum in Jana Street).
Went to Dachau while I was away avoiding my 50th - even more depressing in the rain!
Hope you both have a great time.

In terms of prices in Rome, what are you looking at? Just back from Copenhagen which was very expensive (although could have done it on a budget if really wanted to). Is public transport the best way to get around?

Think Rome -> Palermo is doable, seems to be reasonably-priced flights operating that route in the summer.
