The walking / hiking thread

Only done Watkins once, didnt enjoy it as much as others, it starts pretty much at sea level so you get the full height hit, however i wanted to tick all the routes off and see the section used in that Carry on film up the Kyber haha
Ok , so is it a hard trek? I've been told the Llanberis path is a good one though its the longest ? I havent seen any Carry on films sorry haha so haven't a clue !

Also, don't suppose you or anyone else knows of a good pub nearby to stop at and have Sunday lunch, or good food in fact ?

My recommendation is the Snowdon Ranger route as its often the quietest.
The Llanberis is the longest but its also the busiest I reckon I've done it once but don't think I'd do it again.

I hated the Llanberis path, it was full of idiots!

Ranger was the most enjoyable for me, followed by (starting) the Watkin path, then peeling off in order to approach the summit via the South Ridge.

I love the views from ranger looking back towards the lake, the Llanberis path was too much trainer's, jeans and litter types
I've done Pyg, Miners and Crib Goch. How does the Ranger, Watkin and Rhyd Ddu paths compare?

I'm also keen to do Y Lliwedd, how scrambly is that?

It can be pretty brutal up on Carneddau, very exposed.

Had to spend an impromptu night up there once, curled foetal like behind a lump of rock as it was the only visible shelter around.

Got to see the milky way though!
To your point, we may have just been lucky with the conditions / too buzzing about getting to the summit ridge and therefore blissfully ignorant about how cold and exposed it was - I can certainly imagine it being a lot more brutal if I had to spend the night up there!

Must have been some experience

Cader Idris yesterday via the Pony Path.
Sadly the weather didn’t play ball as we climbed up in mist and fog, with the clouds only clearing slightly on one side when we arrived at the summit.
Obviously once we were nearly down, it was virtually full sun! Everton that!

Amazing, i love doing it as a round trip, fantastic route and never as busy as Snowdon....etc

It was a first attempt at the Welsh 3000’s. My mate gave up at Ogwen, so I carried on up pen-yr-ole-wen and onto the carneddau.

Soon became apparent to me that it’s not much fun on your own and then exhaustion began to take hold. So I found a big rock and curled around it. I did sleep for maybe a couple of hours and then woke to a beautiful sunrise.

Made my way back to our planned meeting point at Aber falls then off for a fat-boy breakfast and 3 massive mugs of tea.
