The Wall - stick or twist?

What should our back four be from now on?

I love Carlo and he's done what needed to be done but it's horrible to watch for me. The sooner he gets some more of his own players the better if we can't trust others to actually playu football.

I really don't think it's 'horrid' to watch when we actually do attack though, and I think that the other day that was more on the players retreating too deep (and Leicester's midfield took control because they're better players than we had in there) in the first 20 mins or so of the second half.

After Leicester scored we came out and I'm quite happy with the way we played and created two good chances - considering the players we had on the pitch and the amount of work they'd done. We at least look fit now, unlike earlier in the season when we were shot 60 minutes into games.

Now I do think Carlo could have made a change sooner to try and put us back on the front foot.

fair enough, I suppose I am being naive expecting more from TD and Gomes, if that's the best we can expect. It's a shame Gomes has fallen so far with form.

I totally agree we should expect more from them mate, fully. I just think they've proved time and time again that they can't do it consistently. There was no chance Davies and Gomes could outmatch Tielemans, Maddison and Ndidi (subsequently Mendy, who is a bag of energy) yesterday. Remember that Tielemans and Mendy completely trounced Man City's midfield earlier this season.

That doesn't excuse us not being able to get a foot on the ball for even a few minutes early in the 2nd half the other day, though!

I will stick to what I said earlier in the week. Changing the back 4 to conventional full backs does not make us any better offensively, it merely weakens us substantially defensively.

There has to be an acknolwedgement of where we are. We are an average team, who had found a way to get results. Stick with that for now.

Does having Godfrey and Holgate on stop the first goal though? Because we weren't really opened up in a major way before that and we'd have been chasing regardless.

I knew you'd come here and claim victory but for me that type of game right there is exactly what we're risking happening if we don't fix the attack which despite playing more attackers we did not do as for all the space on the left Richarlison and Digne were beyond terrible. So playing the 4 CBs just ensure that every time out we are doing what we did today and against Leicester and so on. There has to be a way to play better.

Oh come on. Just hold your hands up and say the move away from those defenders has been a disaster today. Against the poorest opponents on the run we were ran ragged. We couldn't get near Wilson physically etc.

As for we weren't opened up, they hit the bar in the 1st half. I'd also add, had we had a bigger team, with 4 cb's, we have enough players to deal with corners. We hadn't conceded in the 7 games they'd played together from any corner before today.

We have moved away from the system. It made absolutely zero improvement to attacking player (I actually think we had less threat, when you factor in we were playing the worst opponent in said run) and we looked wide open defensively.

Lets knock the idea on the head, that changing the back 4 is going to solve our problems. We just make more problems on top of the pre-existing ones.

It's not about me "claiming a victory" either mate. Everyone has their view. The evidence today is clear though, and I just want the team to do as well as it can.

You can't have less threat than zero. I imagine we will go back to it against Leeds and they'll probably run us ragged too. It's not a sustainable thing unless you're fine with being like Burnley which I personally am not.

And the hitting the bar was not being opened up. Defending set pieces should be possible with DCL, Keane, Mina, Doucoure, Richarlison and Digne who is an underrated aerial player. Personally the issue was down to Richarlison making individual errors.

But we didnt have the same back 4 against Leeds, so it's a mute point. We needed to change the back 4 to avoid defeats like Leeds and today.

They opened us up time and again today. The fact that some of the chances came off set plays is really no consolation. Thoe goals count against us just as much.

We don’t need no Seamus Coleman
We don’t need no Lucas Digne
No Jon-Joe Kenny in the back four
Carlo leave that wall alone

Hey Carlo, leave that wall alone
All in all he simply should’ve stuck with the wall

I’ll get my coat.
