The Wire revisited (with spoilers)

Can't post the link because of age restrictions, but the scene is Season 1, the 39 f**ks, both brilliantly written and funny, in it's own simple way

indeed, that was one of my three favourites (not only for the swearing but also for the landlord stood there in amazement throughout)

Clay Davies became the meme but Corey Parker Robinson as Sydnor is excellent in this scene. Says a lot about class, wealth and the two-way disdain between the haves of political power and the have-nots of the working joe by barely saying a thing and being entirely distanced from the conversation the more "powerful" Davies believes he is entitled to dictate.

The subtle barb from Sydnor about him not recognising a man who likely served him face to face regularly for years on end is perfectly underplayed.

Currently reading The Corner. Never seen the TV adaptation but there's definitely a few things that were used in The Wire.

Well worth a look if you're into The Wire.
In the Corner series they used a lot of the same actors. Comparing the Wire and the Sopranos is almost like comparing Messi and Ronaldo. The two greatest ever and I don't think it matters what side of the fence you are. For the record it's the Wire for me.

Enjoy his ranting at Royce later.

Would recommend Richard Prices books, especially clockers. He had a cameo in the wire as the literature teacher in nick as d'angelo gives a brilliant analysis of the great gatsby

And if you want to hear an authentic Baltimore accent in the show this is the guy. He was a Baltimore detective in real life.

^^ That former-detective-turned-Wire-actor is Jay Landsman, who played the role of Lt. Dennis Mello.

The rotund actor below is Delaney Williams, who played the role of, that's right, Sgt. Jay Landsman.

Jay Landsman (the man, not the character) also features in Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets, the book about Baltimore murder detectives that David Simon published in 1991, when he was still a reporter for the Baltimore Sun (and which itself was adapted as a TV cop show of some years duration during the '90s). In 1997 Simon wrote The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood, which was chiefly concerned with Baltimore's black heroin addicts; one of the primary figures in that book would become the inspiration for The Wire's lovable junkie character, Bubbles.

The TV show draws a lot from both books, and both are well worth reading.
