Can he play left back?Barry Scott
I think 19 last year in all comps, as a bit part player, and from wide, shows he will increase our goal threat. Plus he actually runs in behind and isn't a snail. I'm all for this and am shocked that people aren't.
When fit he's pretty good still, though that's in a more talented side than ours. Keeping him on the pitch is another matter entirely.
I just dont see what we're trying to achieve at this club. The purchasing seems to be without any rhyme or reason.
Tosun in and then a LB. That's what we should have done in January. They were the two glaring omissions. The season's well gone, so just fix the obvious problems and get a plan ready for the summer.
*sigh*
Would Walcott get into the following starting 11- Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea? I would think the answer is no. We want to compete or be better than these teams. So why would we want to buy a player who isn't good enough for these teams, is injury prone, will cost us $20 million and is getting on on age?
If we buy him and fill the rest of the team with players who don't get in the top 6 sides-like Rooney, Sig, Our new striker etc etc don't expect us to compete with these teams. What you will get is what happen against Spurs at the weekend. It's not rocket science. They had a better team and a better manager. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not slagging off the likes of Rooney and the others. I think Rooney was an excellent football player with a rare gift. Man U paid for that gift for many good years. Then when he started to slow down and decrease in effectiveness (which happens to everyone so it isn't a slant at Rooney) they sold him back to us. Gave us a bucket load of cash and took our best player. We then squandered the money thanks to Koeman. Can you see the pattern? We can buy Lukaku back in 10 years so don't worry. He will only cost us a billion dollars by then!!!!
The only way to break the cycle is to stop selling the top players and spend big on brining in more top players. Couple this with a top manager. Some may say we can't attract these types of players but I disagree. We can!
Yes I do agree that Walcott is maybe an improvement on what we have but let's say we do buy him, and others of his standard. All we will do is become like we were when Moyes was manager. We always were a good strong team but just not good enough to win things. We were just off the mark. Close but not close enough. Some people will say that being like this is better than what we have now. And I would agree but I want more for us. I want us to challenge for the league. Is this just a dream? I watched with my own eyes Everton winning the league. It was years ago but why can't we get back to that. Man City where naff 10 years ago but they decided to make the change. Remember when they had Mark Hughes as manager and Keegan? They decided not to settle for this and start to make the hard decisions. Now look at them. And at the same time look at Hughes. He is what he is. Not a bad manager. He is somewhere in the middle. He knows his football. He has lots of experience and played under an amazing manager in Ferguson but he wasn't good enough so he was removed. We should do the same with Big Sam. Look at what Leicester did! Why can't we do that?Offer enough money, like Man City did at the beginning of their takeover, and you can attract big names. When Moshiri took over, I hoped for a marquee signing to make people sit up and take notice. A signing that makes a statement and encourages other big names to join. This hasn't happened. Yet, Bill keep telling us money is no longer a concern.
I personally think Walcott is a good signing. He's at his peak (28 years old), brings much needed pace and scored 19 goals last season.
Lennon has only ever scored 6 in one season (over 10 years).
Bolasie 6 goals in one season (over 5 years).
Walcott is a massive improvement on those two and Mirallis who never showed up.
20m is a snip in today's market.
