My only issue is that if we needed a winger or inside forward so badly, why the heck didn't we at least TRY Lookman or Vlasic out there? If either emerged, we suddenly don't need a 28 year old on crazy wages. If this guy gets hurt or doesn't perform, we are really behind the 8 ball.

My only hope is it might put an end to the stupid 4-3-3 crap we keep playing and never look comfortable in
Play Bolasie one side and Walcot the other with Sigurdsson or Rooney behind Tosun

Think this signing gives us a bit of an insight because it means either he doesn't fancy Rooney behind the striker, or one of Sigurdsson/Bolasie

Would Walcott get into the following starting 11- Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea? I would think the answer is no. We want to compete or be better than these teams. So why would we want to buy a player who isn't good enough for these teams, is injury prone, will cost us $20 million and is getting on on age?
If we buy him and fill the rest of the team with players who don't get in the top 6 sides-like Rooney, Sig, Our new striker etc etc don't expect us to compete with these teams. What you will get is what happen against Spurs at the weekend. It's not rocket science. They had a better team and a better manager. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not slagging off the likes of Rooney and the others. I think Rooney was an excellent football player with a rare gift. Man U paid for that gift for many good years. Then when he started to slow down and decrease in effectiveness (which happens to everyone so it isn't a slant at Rooney) they sold him back to us. Gave us a bucket load of cash and took our best player. We then squandered the money thanks to Koeman. Can you see the pattern? We can buy Lukaku back in 10 years so don't worry. He will only cost us a billion dollars by then!!!!
The only way to break the cycle is to stop selling the top players and spend big on brining in more top players. Couple this with a top manager. Some may say we can't attract these types of players but I disagree. We can!

Mate, with all due respect, we aren't competing with those teams, not even close.

Burnley, West Ham, Leicester, Watford, Palace.... Depressingly, that's who were rivalling for 7th spot.

There's quality outside the top 6 teams in the league. Who have Spurs signed in the last 5 years that would walk into top 4 teams? Leicester is always the pipe dream.

I think it's about mentality and quality. A positive mentality can make good players great. We're a million miles away.

I just don’t get get the current business strategy of signing hugely expensive players on big contracts for players in their late 20’s.

That’s unsustainable in the long term. The recruitment strategy the last couple of years is beyond poor.

I suppose he's got a good 4 years or so left in him, getting him in means we don't have to rely on and can bed in lookman, vlasic, onyekuru and hopefully Sandro. All four are just potential atm and they're going to have bad games, so having another more experienced winger isn't so bad. Mind you I'd have preferred someone who could actually teach them a thing or two, Walcott has no footballing brain.

I think he's mainly brought in as a niasse upgrade as well which I suppose is an upgrade.

What? Hahahaha no. Stop comparing us with the top 6 at once.

About the best we could realistically get. Let's hope we can get it done and he proves to be a success. If he's still hungry he brings pace and goals, two things we are woefully short of.

Without wishing to defend the recruitment people as they've bought some dross, I believe the plan is to buy young players and develop them over a couple of years, so the buying of old expensive players can then stop. Clubs at our level can only buy players at the beginning or end of their careers. If they are top level and at peak age they will go to a bigger club

Why on Earth we're spending £20m on a position we have cover for is beyond me. I'd rather have put this money towards the defence.

I think this is a clear sign that Fat Sam/Walsh will be given next season. The only way it doesn't is if Moshiri feels we're still under the threat of relegation and we need to buy our way out this season.
