Still think he'd find himself on the bench for Arsenal.

We should agree to disagree.

The way Wenger has treated him the last couple of years, maybe a move now is the best thing for him regardless of whether he gets a game or not.

Would like to see him here , but for the life of me, i just can't see it.

Where else do you realistically think he could go? None of the other top 6 would want him and very few clubs would be prepared to spend £20m on a player whose best days are likely behind him.

In fairness to the lad he is still only 28 and his appearances over the last couple of years have been severely limited by Wenger.

He just comes across as a die in the wool Southerner to me, so if West Ham, Palace, Southampton were to put a bid in , i see him choosing there over a move to Merseyside.

Like i say, i hope i'm completely wrong and does join us, i'm just saying , i personally can't see it happening.

Why are we spending our time seeking out the players the bigger teams no longer want?

Theo Walcott apparently has played just 50 minutes of premier league action so far this season and yet Sam/ Steve see him as the answer to Everton’s problems. He’s injury prone and coming to the end of his career, so whatever we pay for him, we will never recoup.

Why aren’t we concentrating on new talent – the RS bought Coutinho for 8.5million and sold on for 142 million this year. That’s where the big clubs are really good at making money. Isn’t this what Steve Walsh is getting paid to do?

I’m not knocking our youth academy, which I happen to think is probably one of the best in the country – in fact, I’d rather give them a go than some of the “talent” brought in by our management/ scouting team (Schneiderlin, Walcott) or rumoured to be considered (Deeney, Carroll).

No one was whining when we were going to spend £30mill on a 30 year old bench warmer from Arsenal called Oliver Giroud...

Bit of context.

Bit of a difference in class though eh? Giroud is top drawer and has been for many years; Walcott has been inconsistent and injury prone.

That said, I have absolutely no problem with £20m for Walcott. That price is about right in this market, if not on the cheap side.

There is a lot of data on peak age for players.

Wide players and attackers peak at 25.

Massive and sudden drop off by 30.

Of course that doesn't mean Walcott will. However I can't think of any 30 year old players who are completely reliant on pace who are still at the top of their game. Super skilled players like Ronaldo, Giggs adapted to their pace going but I don't think anyone would say Walcott was a great footballer.
@bluestevon thoughts?

There are better managers than the ones you name, Dave. But the problem is attracting who ever to come to Everton and stay with us for a few years. You mention Silva but Watford seem to have gone backwards so not sure on that one. Notice no Simeone mentioned do you not rate him?

Back to the topic, Walcott could well be very useful, who makes way for him though in the line up? As I understand it, his problem at Arsenal was game time.
Silva: if they win at home today and we lose they go 9th.

He's doing a fine job there and the poor run they had was after all the disruption with us trying to sign him.

He's 29 in March. He has a good three to four years left at the top level.

£20m is the new £10m. He's scored 1 in 4 throughout his career, largely from wide areas, which is a great return considering Bolasie is 1 in 10 and Lennon is 1 in 12.

Speaking of whom, he's only two months older than Bolasie and two years younger than Lennon, and much more accomplished in the league than both.

It's a no brainer signing. Sure, a risk, but what transfer isn't? It's relative peanuts for an England international in his prime who has grown stale at a terribly managed Arsenal; you spend £20m on a randomer from the Greek league these days.

As for "new talent" being a focus... John Stones, Ademola Lookman, Mason Holgate, Brendan Galloway, Henry Onyekuru etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.? You have to buy seasoned pros as well; this isn't FIFA Ultimate Team.
