Transfer Rumour Thiago Silva

I have said previously that I do not believe that Ancelotti has come to Everton to slowly build a team. I think a manager that has been as successful as he has and has seen as much as he has will not have the patience to put a team together over a three or four year period. That is not to say that he expects to put a title challenging team together overnight.

I think he realises the core of a good team is there and the squad if anything is a bit on the young side, moreso when you think it likely that over 30's like Sigurdsson and Scheneiderlin will probably leave this summer. The addition of a couple of older, more experienced, successful players will add balance to the squad and hopefully instil a winning mentality.

I believe we will still continue to sign young players which can be developed for the future but the signing of the older players may give the team that immediate push now.

If I could use a gif to sum a poster up, his is definitely this...

We can sign others but we don't have unlimited resources.

I'm pretty consistent about the targets I think we should be going for so no not really moaning for moanings sake. I don't like this move.

The fact that you're using Sheringham and Giggs as examples kind of shows how rare it is. Jags was fine, but he clearly lost a step after what, 2015?

That's kind of my point. If we're getting 70% of peak Thiago Silva, how good is that?

Who knows? Time will tell, but time will tell on any signing.

All I am saying is if this does happen then lets trust the manager on this one. He knows what he is doing.

We need a bit of leadership in the team.

With Thiago Silva on the pitch, the average goal against us per game was 0.5
Without him, it was 1.2

Thiago was our best center back last year, and most of PSG fan are worried about the Marquinhos-Kimpembe association.

There is two reasons why Leonardo dont want him to stay :
- 35 years old, of curse (Cavani will not sign a new contract neither)
- He always had a problem of leadership. During big games, Thiago Silva turn into Matthew Pennington. You could see that during the World Cup 2014 with Brasil, during the 6-1 in Barcelona... Basically, he is great 99% of the season but the 1% could be the most important moment when the pressure is at the top.

BUT i dont think he will have this kind of problem here because there is no CL, and his problem is mental. No doubt he can drink Salah, Mane, Aguero, Kane... with one leg.

And he will be great with Holgate so... YES ! Come on thiago

(i hope you understand my message, i havent spoke english for months...)

If this is a goer, you would of course have a concern about 36 year old playing in this league and the fact they havent done it before, that said defending is an art and you can make up ground and space with your mind and positioning as you can with your pace and athleticism. Im always reminded of Weir and Stubbs both played their best stuff well into their 30's.

Ill re-frame this a little instead of thinking this is a temporary fix, i think what we might be buying is time and space, this strikes me as a show of confidence in Branthwaite and Gibson, who are a year maybe two of developing being first team options.

Why put a 25 mill signing in their way. Nothing is cast iron with those two admittedly, but in the current climate Silva for a year or two means we can focus whatever limited funds on central midfield and the right flank and reevaluate next summer based on Brantwaithe and Gibson's progress.

Thats the decision as i see it and that will be up to Carlo and Brands in terms of player development and squad development.

Good analysis.

How old was Vidic when he knocked it on the head n'all?
