See my response to Adam above mate. I see it as a clear upgrade and may help us spend money on other vital areas.

I wouldn't be against it either and he is an upgrade on Keane of course. But I think maybe be better get in someone who is not near the end of their career.
Have a new signing, holgate, mina and one of the young players as our 4 centre half's which should be enough as Europe is not likely
 
Objectively you have to question it tho. He's won like...everything. And Everton is his last stop?

Only one of them has been proven to be a winner and to be fair, Rooney's legs had absolutely gone. Could always see his brain was ticking way ahead of what his legs could do. Always a chance with Rooney of his legs going considering how fast he was at once point while being powerful.

It's not asif Silva has relied on a burst of pace or maintained pace.

again, the question for me is Keane or Silva. Much rather have Silva in for a season or two, sell Keane if we can and re-invest elsewhere or into a younger centreback who could learn from Silva and grow into the XI. All easier said than done ofcourse.

And he was still better than most of the squad.
 
Wasnt a fan of Walker myself falls into the Gary Neville category of woefully overrated.

Really? I thought Des Walker was tremendous. A good defender first and foremost but also rapid. Reminded me a lot of Joseph Yobo but without the mistakes in his game.

Then again I thought Neville was quality too...
 

What happened to all the other centre halfs in world football?

Not that I'm against Silva signing, just not convinced on the "he's a winner/leader" Fabian Delph/Wayne Rooney argument as the key reason to sign him.

O think the biggest thing is what has been mentioned so far. If you include Mina and Holgate as being young still then we have 4 quality prospects coming through with Gibson and Branthwaite. Getting a top end defender in for big money would block their development too.

It's not like we are signing a late 30's James Collins.

I thought he never really fulfilled his potential myself mate, he had all the natural attributes pace and technique, the appex was Forest and Italia 90 as a young man and i thought he never really fulfilled his talent after that and his move to Italy. Thought he was a bit of a suspect defender myself for all his talent.

Gary Neville, i never really understood, a good pro in a team of great player - but i hear people talk about him as the best right back ever, not in a million years, i though he was a very limited player who was good mates with David Beckham and a bit gobby - probably a good leader mind.
 
Who knows? Time will tell, but time will tell on any signing.

All I am saying is if this does happen then lets trust the manager on this one. He knows what he is doing.

We need a bit of leadership in the team.
I don't want to trust the manager. I want the DOF to do his job.

And maybe he is. But it feels a little off with all the other Brands signings.
