We signed a few players after Rooney and before tosun. Richarlison included.Anyone? We signed Rooney and our next signings were Tosun and Walcott. The following summer the biggest name we got was Gomes who was about 7th in the Barca midfield rotation.
They noticed. And then he left and they forgot. We signed a few players after Rooney and before tosun. Richarlison included.
But The point been made was that Rooney signing was big news. It was. It was main sports news in all forms of the media at the time. If people did not notice then they have no interest in football
I'm not sure the point you are trying to make is. Rooney attracted headlines and people took notice. One of the games I was over at that season I was sitting beside 2 people from Holland who were supporting Everton. I asked them and they said they came over to see wayne Rooney play. Did we flip many fans as you say. Who knows. And been honest until we start winning multiple trophies that won't happen. But to say no one took notice when we signed Rooney or appointed Ancelotti is chatting wham mate. They noticed. And then he left and they forgot.
Also the signings between Rooney and Tosun were Cuco, Sigurdsson, Vlasic and Gibson. Richarlison was next summer.

He'd sell a lot of shirts too
What I'm saying is it doesn't matter. People notice, the player leaves, they stop noticing. If our goal is to win things then it really doesn't advance that goal.I'm not sure the point you are trying to make is. Rooney attracted headlines and people took notice. What you said was no one takes any notice. Now you are sayin they notice but forget. What I'm saying is it doesn't matter. People notice, the player leaves, they stop noticing. If our goal is to win things then it really doesn't advance that goal.
No one is coming over to watch a defender defend either.

I guess .00001% to .00002% is technically an improvement, so how about he doesn't meaningfully improve our chances. You do not think Thiago Silva improves our chances of winning something?
Im requesting a 2 week ban on your behalf.

Odds are after we don't beat the RS Sunday we will be 75% of the way through the season and in 12th or 13th behind Burnley and Palace. We need a CB, but aren't a CB away from being top level either.
Who said anything about top level..I guess .00001% to .00002% is technically an improvement, so how about he doesn't meaningfully improve our chances.

Whatever this is getting confusing so let me sum it up: Signing Silva doesn't take us up a level just like signing Rooney didn't take us up a level and signing Ancelotti hasn't immediately taken us up a level (we might do if he wins stuff for us, but it is the winning that matters there, not who did it). Yes people might notice, but it isn't changing their opinion of us as a club. It isn't changing agents or players opinions when we make offers. And it isn't changing the opinions of fans who might catch on and build us as a club brand. I don't really care too much about the last part but it does lead to more money and that can make a difference for the on the field part. What you said was no one takes any notice. Now you are sayin they notice but forget.
If he makes us a better team and helps us progress then it all helps. He may not be a moneyball signing. But he could improve us and push us up the table for a season or into a cup final.
A not top level team wins a cup about once or twice every ten years. We either need to get better or get very lucky.Who said anything about top level..
Finishing 6th or 7th and gettin to maybe a cup final means Europe. You build from there.
It did though. The everton twitter followers went up and Wayne's massive number of followers were exposed to everton.I don't really care if we sign players to build our "brand" or whatever, someone suggested it and as someone who knows a lot of pretty casual football fans abroad I can tell you it won't mean much at all as Rooney didn't mean much and more people know him.
