Why are you and other usually sensible posters arguing with that absolute clown?

He's a contrarian. No matter what you say old lizard features over there will argue the opposite. It's what he does.

Yes mate I am a contrarian about signing ancient players. I am a contrarian about the quality of certain players.

However I am very much with the majority on other somewhat controversial subjects like the quality of DCL. And if everyone came on here and was talking about how much they wanted to sign Grealish or Gabriel I'd be right there with them.

I truly believe what I post, and I just don't care if I'm the only one who thinks it.

I know what you said but answer me this: where do we end up at the end of Silva's two year deal? Say we finish 7th and then 6th. How do we go from there to higher if one of the players we are relying on has to then retire?

I just think it makes it really hard to consistently improve when you are signing Silva or Allan and as soon as you improve a little you are stuck maintaining what you've gotten.

I'm not trying to come off arrogant at all, but you keep mentioning 6th or 7th like that is an achievement and I just don't really care about finishing there. I'd rather we finished twelfth and showed signs of improvement throughout the team, sort of like we are now, and built on that year on year regardless of league position until we have a core of guys who are in that 23-28 range that will have three or four years to really push for the top four or so. And maybe a cup too.
You replace them after a season or 2 with a better player if possible.. Every season your squad should improve. If a player does that for a seaaon or 2 then it works.
If you make Europe it helps you attract players. Even europa league does that. There is also a financial incentive in qualifying and finishing higher up the table. And if you finish 12th again next season you are not improving.

I hear all of that. What I worry is how easy it'll be to buy someone just better right away. Considering to get someone of Silva's level right now it requires us to wait until he is 35.

That's the main reason I say development is key. We can buy Richarlison when he is 21 and good and make him great. We probably couldn't buy Richarlison at 24 after three years of playing someone who is 31 because he'd have somewhere better to go, and the 21 year old version isn't going to be ready right away for us to not lose a bit of quality initially.

But you have said silva is not any good and only improves us by 0.001 per cent I think it was. So not hard to improve on that then.

He improves us more than that.

What I said is he improves our chances of winning only a little, because our chances of winning something are so small to begin with.

I do have some doubts about how good he is still, I think that's understandable given his age but you can tell me I'm wrong if you'd like, but if he is still the guy he was 3 years ago or whatever then he is clearly better than what we have.

Come on fella you should know that @MarcelsGoat lives to throw out bait. Pretty sure I’ve seen him post 5 different opinions on signing Silva.

A truly experienced WUM.

Every single time lol

What I'm saying is it doesn't matter. People notice, the player leaves, they stop noticing. If our goal is to win things then it really doesn't advance that goal.

No one is coming over to watch a defender defend either.
That’s wham.... I’d have paid top dollar every week to be able to watch Baresi and Maldini in their prime, is also pay to watch Sergio Ramos

No one is ever going to agree on everything, so to each their own I supposed, but I imagine if you polled people on who they'd rather watch play weekly, nothing about success or trophies or whatever just pure entertainment, there'll be a majority that pick a top class attacker over a defender.

That’s just your opinion, personally I enjoy watching great defenders.
