Transfer Rumour Thiago Silva

I don't agree.
We have a number of young players at the club, Kenny ? , Holgate, Davies, DCL ,Kean, Iwobi, Richarlison and Gordon spring immediately to mind.
I think they could learn a lot from an experienced professional who has been playing and leading at the highest level for over a decade.

I agree it won't happen overnight but you must start somewhere.
I think it’s a bit of a leap. Why would you automatically learn a lot from someone just because they’ve won things? It doesn’t make them a good coach, or generous with their time, it doesn’t even make them a good pro. It’s possible that young players could learn from him but I always find it weird that people just say it as if it’s an obvious fact, there’s no real evidence for it at all.

The idea that Thiago doesn’t massively improve us is ridiculous.

Ability aside, just his experience will have a massive impact on the players around him. We are missing genuine winners and the mentality that comes with it.
Just imagine the likes of holgate training everyday with Silva. What an education for the lad having silva on the pitch and Ancelotti off it to learn from.

Say Silva comes in to play a couple of seasons under Ancelotti, does it necessarily mean taking away playing time from Holgate & Mina?

Could maybe see Ancelotti setting up with Mina - Silva - Holgate at the back and have Coleman and Diane as wing backs in a 3-5-2?

Either way, playing and training alongside one of the best CB's in the world over the last 10 years could only be beneficial to Holgate and other young defenders.

If I'm an aspiring author, would my own writing improve by reading the established greats in my genre? I think the same applies here.

The argument about him taking game time off Mina & Holgate makes no sense whatsoever.

We only have 3 senior CBs at the club. We've been very lucky this season that we didnt have 2 injuries / suspensions at the same time or we'd have been playing Schnides or a kid there.

And if Mina / Holgate's game time is so important what do these people want us to do? Not sign a CB at all and just play Mina and Holgate every week? Or sign a CB to play back up to those 2 for the season?

Makes no sense

There was plenty of talk that signing Mina, Gomes, and Digne from Barcelona would in itself automatically raise standards and these players would somehow have a lower tolerance of failure, coming from such a hallowed club. It was the same with Delph. It's poppycock.

This sort of stuff fills column inches in The Echo and the likes, but its based on nothing.

Well, Richy seems to be a fan

It isnt poppycock. To label the three you have mentioned with it would be though, none of which had a successful spell with Barcelona and were coming from being a first teamer, with real quality proven.

Silva isn't coming from the same situation, he's A. First team regular and has been a leader for PSG and B. He's an international captain. C. What he has won he has done so by being a key part of each team internationally and domestically.

I get your point and do think it has merit, but possibly not with Silva's scenario.

Also worth pointing out having Silva in wont immediately make Micheal Keane less error prone. Getting a proven winner is fine, but you need to get more than one and that may take time, but it's a start, well Ancelotti was the start i guess.Im lucky enough to have been in behind the scenes of a football club, and having particular characters really does help a team progress.
