This nurse Letby case

Interesting development.

The method of deciding what was permissible evidence in the case against Letby is discussed here and the non-use of statistical evidence in particular in trials.

The conclusion at the end by Prof Richard Gill is that he supports a retrial.

“Statistics were not used, though statistical insinuations were made: she was always there when incidents happened,” said Gill, adding that a meaningful statistical analysis was not carried out to explore whether or not there was a higher rate of incidents during Letby’s shifts than outside them, while controlling for relevant factors."

CH5 tonight 9PM.

I've said all along I think there's been a massive miscarriage of justice taken place here. More and more the evidence presented to convict her has been questioned as unsafe.

IMO she'll be cleared sometime soon. The hospital trust that threw her under the bus have acted shamefully throughout.

Nothing is happening sometime soon. What are her options?

Anyone unfamiliar with the case (ie you) would think a massive miscarriage of justice has taken place. Respected nurse with no history of mental illness or criminality decides to go on an insane baby-killing spree in full view of everyone? Surely the evidence must be overwhelming. Incontrovertible. Well actually no, we're not 100% sure these babies were even killed. It sounds like an incredible conviction.

But one of the longest murder trials in UK history, with her having the benefit of elite legal representation, finds her guilty.

And lost an appeal against conviction, been convicted of a further offence following a retrial and faces the very realistic prospect of further prosecutions.

I think Dave has the hots for her.

That retrial raised a lot of red flags for me; openly saying she’d been found guilty of the other murders as part of the prosecution case didn’t sit right.

Yet despite things like this, she`s retained the same legal team since day one and seems to have complete faith in them.

The reality of the whole case, is becoming increasingly blurred by the sheer amount of online legal experts and conspiracy theorists.

Funnily enough, was watching Fracture last night, and my first thought was "imagine this case in 2024 with social media around"

Maybe wait and see this documentary before you start showing your ignorance.

After the Post Office thing I'm sceptical of the big boys in all areas.

I think what came across in the documentary last night is that the key 'working out' report from the medical expert that sunk Letby was not made available to the defence team and it was just written testimony from him/her as they never showed up in court, so no chance of a forensic rebuff to the report or cross examination of the expert took place.

Also, there was never any weight given to a very similar earlier case that occurred in Holland where the statistical data around the presence of someone in all 'significant events' that damned Letby happened to another clinician in another baby deaths case was successfully challenged.

Overall, the 'beyond reasonable doubt' verdict looks ropey.

This case will probably never go away.

If the prosecution with held information like that from the defence, it`d be an instant mistrial, yet there wasn`t one.

It would almost certainly form the central plank for an appeal, yet her most appeal was recently rejected !!!

This was one of the most scrutinised, publicised and reported on crimes that this country has ever seen, yet no one picked this up either.

Why haven`t her defence team ever raised this issue ?

As I`ve said before, she`s retained the same legal team throughout, so she obviously has faith in them.

Surely any sane person would be thinking " my legal team are missing all kinds here, maybe time to get someone new in " , yet she hasn`t ?

And still there isn't a concise estimate of the shipman victims.
