This season vs Martinez 13/14 season

This period is more significant. Carlo knows how to set up a defence. Weve seen the difference he's made after one season In charge.

With another summer of astute signings and careful coaching who knows. There are some good youngsters in the mix too. I can only see us improving Next season.

13/14 was a very exciting season to be an Evertonian. We played sime scintilating football at times and chased the CL places very hard. Unfortunately for Martinez, when his limitations became evident, it was clear that that was going to be the high watermark for us under him. Lukaku aside, he wasn't a great operator in the transfer market and most of his signings didn't improve the great squad that he inherited from the Moyes era.

This season our squad is still a work in progress. Carlo is making a good fist of what is still quite a limited squad. Remember that we were playing some terrible stuff under Allardyce barely 18 months ago. Nobody can deny that we're moving in the right direction under Carlo, so while I don't think this season we are quite as good as 13/14 (unless we nick the FAC) we can be much more satisfied with the stewardship of our club.

Yeh, Two decent right sided players and a ball winning, forward passing midfielder and we are a very different prospect

Look at the line ups.

Coleman, Baines Stones, Distin, McCarthy Barkley Mirallas Lukaku Pienaar are miles above anything we have in the current team.

The keepers are probably equal, Allan on a par with Barry. James would get in. Everyone else is worse.

I think his 1st season was somewhat overrated. He was found by Pulis in December.

His 3rd season is underrated though. Every bit of luck that went our way in the 1st season went against us in the 3rd.
Sterling, Terry decisions were enough to sack a ref.

There isn’t a comparison really. We were really good during that Martinez season, had a clear style of play and a quality striker in Lukaku - we were in control of getting into Europa even though we conceivably blew champs league.

This season we seem to have run out of steam way too early. Injuries played a massive part I think but also we have no clear style of play and seemingly way behind liverpool, West Ham and spurs on current form to get Europa league spot.

Obviously I’d still rather Ancelotti than Martinez.... maybe a combination of both would be the perfect manager!

And most of that side was signed by Moyes - the same Moyes who's building a solid outfit at WHU.

Brands OUT

13/14 was the last season I enjoyed - front foot football- 72 pts, nice mix of youth and experience, going to the emirates and outplaying the then runaway leaders. I know it went to pot afterwards but we haven’t got near that standard of football since
