This season vs Martinez 13/14 season

Tell you what there’s a few mings in this current squad who wouldn’t even make the bench of the 13-14 squad.

Kevin Mirallas is better than Alex Iwobi, Bernard Josh King etc.

Some might not like to hear it as he once stole a penalty but he would walk into this team.

I mean, i'm willing to give Josh King more than 60 minutes of football, to make my decision on him.

Mirallas had bags of potential, but his attitude was just atrocious, mentioned when he signed that we were an excellent stepping stone, and then kept flirting with other clubs (like Lukaku). On his day he was excellent, but believe he believed the hype too much.

Miles apart.

That 13-14 team wasn’t scared to play football against whoever it was, results didn’t always go to plan like at Anfield but we played everyone off the park at home bar City and out played Arsenal and United away.

This current crop well, it’s boring negative and am fed up of it.

Yeah, but it will come.

From Moyes, the team was hardened and needed some extra talent, Roberto brought that, and when results started flowing, so did the confidence. We played some truly amazing stuff that campaign.

Look at the current crop, and they're battered from Koeman, Silva and Allardyce. We've brought in dross, which absolutely kills the flow, and creativity. Sigurdsson and Gomes in the middle ahead of McCarthy and Barry, two were effective, the others aren't. Ancelotti clearly feels the side need to sort out the defensive issues and then he'll move forward to improve the attacking options.

Boring and negative now, but look at the defence... Godfrey is great, Keane and Mina are playing their best football for the club, and Digne is having a blinder. He's working magic, because half this group have no fight, have no hunger to push on. Yet we're still in the hunt for Europe and we're making progress in the right direction with Allan, Doucoure, James being key improvements.

Loved that 13-14 season, but if you think we're not going to start improving on an attacking basis under Ancelotti, then i'll be very happy when you're proved wrong.

I think the difference is Martinezs team was basically a continuence of a team that had been together a number of years.
Carlos team is a build.
When Martinez began a build on the team and started to put more of his own players in then we seen him fail and we regressed
This is Carlos first full season and admittedly it has been bitty. We have seen the good and the bad. If next season he recognises the failings then we will progress as he will surely be bringing in more talent with Brands trying to get rid of the meh players

be honest Josh King will never be half as good as Mirallas

That team had an extremely solid base and added a 20 goal striker that season. It should have done well and things shouldn't have fallen apart for that side inside 24 months.

It was my most enjoyable season watching Everton by far, but I have a lot of regret that we managed to decline so rapidly and for no good reason. The recruitment ever since that season has been atrocious and Martinez failed massively in his second and third seasons.

We are going to have to build something much more sustainable moving forward and we are starting from a far lower base. Although I do wish we could go back to April of 2014 and do things very differently. Not much has gone right ever since we bottled that game at home to Palace when 4th was right there for us. We've basically thrown 7 years down the drain through a combination of ineptitude and wasting money.

Well they're two different players. One is a winger, the other is a striker.
If he scores 10 goals a year (or less for an impact), i'm happy.

He's shown enough in a really short period to suggest he's not a complete write off.

Mirallas on his day i thoroughly enjoyed watching, but he has more questions about failing to seize many of his opportunities to really become a top footballer.

Think it was 15-16 season but I remember watching us smash Sunderland 6-2 with kone getting a hat trick, Gerry and rom were unplayable, probably best game I’ve attended,

After 23 games in Martinez first season we were 5 points better off than we are in Carlo's first full season. Worth noting though that if we hadn't forfeited the Newcastle and Fulham games due to a complete lack of desire and effort then Carlo would be a 1 point better off which makes them losses even more annoying and shows how well Carlo has done apart from when the beauts let him down.
