This season vs Martinez 13/14 season

13/14 has a special place in the memory but as we came to find out, it was all built on sand and was really the peak period rather than a beginning. Martinez ripped up the foundations put down Moyes in doing so did so much damage to us, even if there was a few good memories. His last season especially is the worst I've ever experienced as a 21st century fan.

This time under Carlo I'm far more cautious about getting my hopes up but still feeling very positive about the club and the future. This squad is punching above it's weight all things considered, and the signings we've made, or are going make, to keep the build going are bound to better than the lot Roberto brought in (McGeady, Eto'o, Alcaraz, Kone, Besic, Robles, etc.)

I see it more along the lines of maybe 04/05. We play dreadful about 90% of the time, but it's the other 10% that compensates and turns would-be draws under another manager into wins.

I remember the evening well. It was a warm evening the crowd were well expectant and we flopped. I remember Barkley coming close with a late chance near the end but it was too little too late.

That arsenal game at the Emirates gets better in people’s heads by the day. What was in truth a very confident, accomplished, performance which got a deserved draw against a team that finished one place above us in the league has somehow become a game in which we played the best team in the world off the park and were cruelly denied by incredibly bad luck.

Recall Arsenal top of the league at that point in time and in pretty good shape. Decent game to get a point out of, but we almost lost it too with Giroud hitting the bar from the half way line or something like that.

Under Martinez we were always huge outsiders for top 4 but it was very exciting.

This season, we're an actual 'dark horse' and it looks possible because our defence is so good and we have goal threats from all over the pitch.

7 games till end of Feb and if we can win 4 of them we'll be doing well.

We dominated that game, as we did most games that season. Howard being Howard on the night, their GK having a blinder, and some hard luck hitting posts meant it wasn't to be. It really wasn't a flop.

Matinez season 13/24 season by far more entertaining but Carlo’s lot play differently a lot more compact and defensive the Italian way. If we could combine the 2 we’d be title contenders

13/14 Crystal Palace game was called off originally and I think we would have won that night and things would have ended differently. However there are sliding door moments in all seasons. We might benefit from these games being postponed this season or it might cost us. I still think about winning the title at this stage. That would be better than Martinez 13/14 even if it was achieved with less points.

Possibly why he rested McCarthy. Unfortunately it was the wrong decision but as I said if we had played originally we wouldn't have had to rest McCarthy.
