Thumbs Rep System

The clique thing is tiring. Like anywhere there'll be certain members who get to know each other electronically (baulks) but the place from day one has always been friendly and bullying has not been tolerating. If anyone feels like they are being picked up unfairly then they could raise it by PM with a mod and they're all very decent lids, they'd sort it.

That's why the place has done so well in six years.

I like your posts mate. But on this occasion you're completely wrong. The clique does exist and the older members. If I was to go to a mod and explain I think I'm being unfairly neg repped they wouldnt see it as a problem.

The repping system is the pyramid of the forum. Who's at the top and who's at the bottom. The majority of the ones who voted "old rep system" are old/regular posters who don't want change. Without the rep system power can quite easily change hands with new posters coming in and that's what people fear.

It does mate. This is the best and fairest way. But Il explain why it won't happen:

People pay the £20 fee. With it and the rep system they get a bit of power. This is why some of them buy it. Without the power and a level playing field they won't purchase it.

Thus effecting the forums revenue. Good on the owner for making it this way. He's covering cost with it. But it also puts posters in a pyramid system.

That's why the thumbs won't stay. I guarantee it. If its stays watch the forum support members drop!

I hear you but my feeling is they've taken a broader view - perhaps numbers were declining (members/posts/hits???) - they certainly would have considered your point but the fact they bit the bullet gives me cause for optimism.

Can't speak for anyone else but I upgraded first time round because I'm on here a lot and it seemed fair to contribute in some way. Nothing more or less really.

For me its not a case of contributing £20 to feel like I have some sort of power over a non upgraded member, it's because I want to support the forum, the upgrade is just a bonus, I'd happily pay £20 with no benefit other than to help keep the place runnin, I dont consider myself better or worse than any other member for doing that, although it does give me the benefit of you seeing a larger than normal rapey ewok.

You don't have to pay the full £20 !!!

Other options are available like...

Maybe a nominal joining fee would keep mischief makers away in the first place ???

There's a network of people on here who are what I'd call matey. I (cyber) get on with some rarely if ever speak to others. I speak to some posters who don't really get on with any of the regs. there's no power whatsoever at play nor do I recognise any. If I want to argue or disagree with anyone I will.

I think your looking to far into it TBH and it's doing you no favours. It's only the internet.

That's your opinion mate and you could be as right as I'm wrong. It's a perception thing.

For my money's worth I've been on here since day one so I've watched it grow. There's been the usual spats and kick offs as I presume you get in most forums and I've been a tit as much as anyone in them sadly.

The people who run the site and mod it for the most part have known each other for over eight years and been of the general same sound disposition. There would be no issues in an older poster being banned or pulled right in if they had been nasty or cruel to a new poster. And is right, I wouldn't post here if it was otherwise.

It doesn't matter how long you've posted here or how many green or red bars or rep points or title or whatever sh*t you've got under your name. People have always been judged on how sound they post. Even if someone has the complete opposite opinion you could have a decent debate without it turning ugly.

The old rep system helped that. People would come on here and post and get points and they would genuinely like it. I used to do it a lot with sound new posters to encourage them to settle in and post more.

Coach above has a good point about why do we need anything? But it's generally been a good system in rewarding someone who posts sound and punishing someone who just wants to argue and cause trouble.

Sorry to hear of your experience mate. I think with a few tweaks then the old system would suit better.

I hate myself for writing this on a f*cking forurm. I need a life. But I also want to see the place do well as I know those who run it. The rep system was a good system for keeping the atmosphere sound.

Again, in my opinion.

Reasoned post that lid. Far more reasoned than i'd have the ability to be/do.

Good post mate

Obviously it goes without saying that Chico gets turned red if the new 1 point system comes into effect, unsurprisingly it wont be the first time he's had 100 members turn him red.
