Tim Cahill - an Everton executive?

"Fans on our case about the running of the club? Bring in some human shields. Sharpy and Cahill should do it"
I think the difference between Sharp and Cahill is that Cahill has a degree in business from Harvard, he works in Qatar with their aspire academy as a director, and he's also involved with FIFA. He has gone and learned a trade clearly with the intention of moving into the business side of football

I love the guy and don't quite understand his credentials but to be our DoF you need experience and lots of contacts.

I'm guessing there are positions that need filled right now other than just the top ones like DOF or CEO etc. He could well be brought in to assist one of those to get experience and maybe be promoted in time.

Cahill has experience on both the business and football sides so in theory, he could have the right credentials in time. I wouldn't have a problem with him being given a role as some kind of a bridge between the commercial and football branches of the operation. When things go wrong in football, it tends to be with football people who maybe don't understand the business, or business people who know nothing about football. People who are good at both will be very useful.

Can he sit next to a panda and make it look like the panda is the one with the brains though? These things are essential in the running of any sound business.

Yeh that's fine but hiring him as a DoF doesn't sound so wise considering the position the club is in.

Well experience as a DoF is kinda one I'd hope for at Everton considering we're such a mess. Someone who's never done it before? Not so much.
I get that and agree. I don't think he should be DoF but I definitely wouldn't be against him being involved in some capacity because he does have qualifications and experience in working as a director in organisations (big ones at that). Like look at him being present for the James announcement in Qatar.

If you look at the German/Dutch DoF models, they regularly promote former players. Rolfes at Leverkusen is one who went pretty much into the DoF role straight out of retirement I think. It can work, but yeah given our situation maybe it's not the one to try.

Think Cahill is a really good appoinment in a niche role (if it ends up being confirmed), and think he will be a massive asset, but he did a four day course at harvard, nothing more.

I think it would be fine if he worked in DBB's office for a few months whilst she finds her next position, something she is rumoured to be doing. I think if we found ourselves in a scenario were Cahill was taking over her job in the summer - along with a new Director of Football/Technical Director installed - I think a lot of fans that are completely disillusioned with how rudderless the club is at the moment could get behind a restructuring like that.
Yea maybe. Nothing wrong with that scenario at all. Not sure how DBB is to blame for anything myself but it is what it is. Why don't you think Cahill would make a good DoF though?

sorry, was just reading up on that now, yeah not a degree, but a business course.

Still, it's more than Sharp's got!

I don't want him on the board or as a DoF. But in a niche role I think there's room for him as long as he has power. He's played a big part in that academy in Qatar. I think there's a role for him here.

The credentials seems secondary to "being a blue" though.

I mean, take Wayne Rooney. No way he's invited for an interview if he didn't play for Everton or supported Tranmere Rovers.
Yes, it’s not a qualifying factor in and of itself, I agree.

But since that’s the pool we find ourselves in, I’m purely talking comparatively.

Sharp left a particularly bad taste, as he’d basically been an odd job man around the place before being mindlessly elevated to the board.

Cahill looks far more like a CEO in waiting rather than a DOF. He has spoken openly about having a passion for business and he has worked extensively, both in his playing and post-playing career, to build himself a huge network across several continents. His business and commercial acumen would be completely wasted as a DOF, which requires a different skill set altogether. As shown by Steve Walsh, not even a highly thought of scout is able to bring enough to enough to the table. Someone like Dan Ashworth I think would be a far more suitable appointment for that position if we were to go back down that route.

A Cahill - Ashworth - Lampard chain of command is incredibly appealing to me, all young progressive appointments. Probably far too progressive for this dumb as rocks club though.

I mentioned that last week as ideal as well.

Either DOF or CEO would be ideal.

Perhaps DOF until towards summer when were (hopefully) safe...then moves upstairs and we bring a new man in.

Cahill does NOT have a Harvard business degree.

Edit: just seen you had picked up on that ;)
